Very disappointed in people today. Me and my girlfriend walked to Jerry’s place today and got glared at by many people outside like we didn’t belong including 2 workers. After being ID’d by a bartender who served us many times but “has never seen us before” we sat for a few minutes then we watched the entire bar including 3 employees gang up on one black man. In the bar less than 5 min after a 16 mile bike ride was denied bc he didn’t have an id. Okay cool right? No! He goes to leave and in front of half the clientele and workers his bicycle was stolen that was parked right next to two nice Harley’s. But no one saw anything. This man got a lil upset but called the police and quietly waited for them. The patrons inside made distasteful comments and suggested that “one of his friends” came and took his bike. A man came from outside making racist remarks antagonizing this man until he finally spoke up for himself. Then the entire bar including those 3 staff started yelling at the black man for defending himself. Telling him he had to leave bc of how he responded to these remarks. The bartender even got heated and asked this man to leave instead of the man who was antagonizing and making racist comments. The bartender himself also spoke in a demeaning manner referring to this black man as “boy” as he called the cops who he already knew were on their way. I had to step in and calm the man who got his bike stolen down bc I didn’t want him to lose his cool like they so clearly wanted. My girlfriend and I waited for the police to arrive as we didn’t want the mob mentality we just witnessed to inspire any further acts of racism on behalf of the workers , patrons, or police. It’s incredible to me as an African American to see this type of thing happening and so close to home. I live 2 blocks from here and see a lot of us black people in here giving this Buisness money. So for the employees to have been in on this is crazy to me. Not telling anyone else where to spend their money but know mine will never be at this establishment again and to all black people out there I definitely suggest you take your...
Read moreJerry's Place, aka Bailey's has a popcorn machine, a juke box full of classic country and western and clientel representing a nigh complete cross section of the socio-economic strata in Madison. It's in one of the few remaining pockets of Blooming Grove and it's the place to go when your party is getting too rowdy for Brother's Three. Don't let it's tiny exterior fool you, it's tiny inside too. Intimate, rather. As in, it's the kind of place where strangers are going to subtly intimate their hopes and fears loud enough for the entire bar to hear. I was challenged to an arm wrestling match on 3 separate occasions by the same person. I won twice and lost the third time in spectacular fashion after overhearing earlier in the evening that his girl left him. If all of the above is not really your cup of tea, you should probably go get a beer a...
