Continue reading for update....This was our very first experience with Greek food and we were incredibly impressed with the food as well as the owner. He was so kind and made a point to talk to us after our meal which was absolutely amazing! We moved from the land of meat and potatoes so it's a whole new world for us, we went with the gyro platter, Philly, sambousa, and both kinds of baklava. Everything tasted so so good, it was seasoned very well and everything was very fresh and hot. I was surprised with the baklava. I 100% enjoyed the Greek style baklava more, but that's just preference. Overall, our experience was wonderful and we will definitely be back!!!
Update 4/17/25
So everyone is hyped on these Dubai chocolate bars. This shop makes their own Dubai chocolate bars and they are amazing! But let's talk about a new creation from the family that owns this place. I don't know what it's called but I'm going to call it heaven. You have got to try this.. it's a Dubai chocolate bar basically that has been deconstructed and mixed in with white chocolate and strawberries. Good God is this thing freaking amazing! I was the first customer that got to try this as they haven't added it to their menu yet bc they just created it. I promise you you will not be disappointed! I would also like to add that their service is impeccable. I called ahead as I like to bring my dog along with me if at all possible and I called in to ask if that was okay and they were kind enough to set a table up outside for us so that I could have my dog along. I really appreciate this family, their restaurant/food, and...
Read moreMy first stop was really a spur of the moment decision. The restaurant is on the corner of a non-descript little strip mall with a remarkably bad amount of parking. It unfortunately kind of blends into the background tapestry and is quite easy to pass without noticing. I was searching for a meal and not having any luck. I actually pulled into the lot simply to turn around. Then I recognized Gyro's, and figured, 'what the heck, worth a try." I'm awfully happy I did.
Now, I enjoyed my first meal so much (a Gyro's combo) that I decide I had to return before posting anything to be certain it wasn't just a one-off experience. It definitely was not (gyro stir fry). The shawarma is tender and delicious, the hummus superb, the rice perfectly cooked and seasoned, and the baclava flaky, sweet perfection. The store is part market and part kitchen - with a few tables tossed in for good measure. The folks behind the counter are friendly, but focus more on providing an excellent meal than chit-chatting with customers. In other words, my kind of place! Good food trumps all else and this place brings an A-game at a very reasonable price. You better believe - I will be heading...
Read moreMake no mistake about it! Gyros Grill is an east Bloomington community staple! You cannot go wrong with a family-owned establishment like this. I have been an infrequent customer since the late 2000s. They have the best gyros in town & their cucumber sauce, hummus, & falafel are made fresh in house. The garlic in the cucumber sauce is just right without being over or underpowering.
My usual go-to is their Gyro platter. Gyros Grill also features a small grocery & deli area specializing in Middle Eastern & Halal foods. It would be nice if Gyros Grill made in-house baklava on location. I feel this can be reasonably accommodated without risking excessive overhead.
If Gyros Grill can perfect a unique take on a traditional old world baklava recipe, I predict people will travel far & wide for a taste. Afterall, great things come in small & unsuspecting packages! As always, I look forward...
