Culinary Chronicles of Central Illinois SevenMALKINCulinary Chronicles of Central Illinois SevenMALKIN
At Culinary Chronicles of Central Illinois, adventure is always on the menu—and Thai House Authentic Thai Cuisine in Bloomington absolutely delivers. For two thrilling decades, Thai House has not only dazzled taste buds but also conquered nearly every Pantagraph Reader’s Choice award: “Best Asian Cuisine,” “Best Vegetarian Restaurant,” “Best Overall Restaurant,” and “Best Service”—proving its reign as Bloomington’s flavor champion. Legendary, Award-Winning Leadership Every journey here begins with the indomitable Sue Tuuk, the beloved owner whose bold culinary vision inspires both tradition and innovation. Sue, alongside her husband Kevin in the kitchen and the ever-attentive Amora-Min at the front, transforms a quiet lunch hour into a vibrant expedition through the flavors of Thailand. Drink Explorations • Thai Iced Matcha Milk Tea: Creamy, slightly earthy, and absolutely refreshing—a sip of this is a passport to foodie bliss. • Jasmine Tea: The floral aromas whisk the senses to a tranquil Thai garden, best enjoyed between spicy bites. Adventurous Vegetarian Dishes Vegetarians and the plant-curious will rejoice—Thai House specializes in adventurous, customizable plates brimming with fresh, bold flavors. Fan favorites earning rave reviews and awards include: • Pad Thai with Tofu or Vegetables: Stir-fried rice noodles tossed in tangy tamarind, crunchy peanuts, and a riot of fresh veggies, with the option to go egg- or fish sauce-free for, truly vegan eats. • Vegetarian Red Curry: A coconut milk-based, fiery curry loaded with mushrooms, bamboo shoots, and bell peppers—every bite is a trek through the Thai jungle. • Pineapple Veggie Cashew Fried Rice: Sweet pineapple, roasted cashews, and crisp veggies create a savory-sweet symphony that delights vegetarians and omnivores alike. • Thai Egg Rolls and Veggie Gyoza: Crispy envelopes of savory vegetables, perfect for a zesty start to any meal. Thai House’s kitchen is well-versed in tweaking classics for vegans—just ask for no egg or fish sauce. That flexibility, along with their commitment to fresh, vivid ingredients, has made them the perennial local “Best Vegetarian” restaurant. Signature Classics • Pad Thai Duk: Their award-winning Pad Thai with crispy duck—a hero’s dish, full of complex flavors and crunchy textures. • Thai House Crispy Duck: Decadent, perfectly cooked duck atop a bed of vegetables and sweet-spicy sauce, for those who savor boldness at every turn. • Pad Thai with Chicken: A classic that never disappoints—hearty, tangy, and just the right amount of spice. The Adventurous Pad Thai Origin Pad Thai didn’t spring from ancient tradition—it was a bold invention of 1930s wartime Thailand, crafted to unify the nation and ignite culinary pride during rice shortages. A creation of political vision, Pad Thai’s mix of rice noodles, tamarind, and jazzed-up veggies became a global sensation through both kitchens and street stalls—proving that new adventures, and iconic dishes, await every curious diner. This is my favorite restaurant in Bloomington. Every weekend I crave Thai house food. Their fried rice and omelette is delicious. Before the pandemic they stopped making Thai custard. We ask for Thai custard Every time we order food from there and we hear a no. Suddenly this week we asked and it was there. For someone who does not have a sweet tooth I loooooove this desert and I missed it sooo much !! It just melts in your mouth. Eat with 🍨 and you'll keep eating it!!!! Hope they don't stop making it. Don't miss eating at this amazing Thai food place.

I was just passing through Bloomington and had to stop for gas, but I was hungry and also in the mood for Thai food, so I pulled up directions to the nearest one without looking at the reviews, and WOW was I in for a big surprise. And by Big, I mean, did you see those noodles in the Pad See Ew? They were THICC!

In all seriousness now, I had an order of crab rangoons and an order of Pad See Ew with tofu. The crab rangoons were decent. They were triangular shaped and crispy, but could have used a bit more filling. The sauce that came along with was strangely clear, pink, and liquidy, unlike any other sweet and sour sour sauce I've seen, but it sure was de-lic-ious.

The Pad See Ew was amazing, the noodles were wide, thick, and stir fried with the rest of the dish to have a slight crispiness to them. The dish had just the right amount of sauce and tasted wonderful. Finally the tofu, oh! The tofu. It was some of the best tofu I have ever eaten. The tofu was fried to have a perfectly crispy texture on the outside, soft pillowy inside, and had so much flavor packed into those little cubes.

The food (described in detail above) was prepared quickly and very reasonably priced. Two main dishes and an appetizer came out to around $25.

The service was excellent, the wait staff was kind and were able to answer any of our questions about the menu.

I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone, whether you are someone who is just passing through like myself or a local to the town. I wouldn't take the time to write a review this long (on a phone) if I didn't actully feel that way about the food. I definitely will be coming back the next time I pass through Bloomington. Thank you house of Thai for a...

I want to like this location so bad. Their food is excellent. The service is definitely not so. I would rate this as a 6 star on their food, their service time and time again has brought this score very low for me. Great selection of courses, can be a bit overwhelming at times, but they are willing to innovate and try new things in their restaurant. When it comes to drinks they tend to be inattentive to their customers. Several times i would order my soda only to have it come with the meal, which i can let slide. But refills apparently are a foreign concept to the restaurant. I would make eye contact with our server, with a cup with only ice in it sitting right next to me, the waitress would look at it and go about her merry way. But this is only a small complaint, that has happened maybe two or three times, and i am a forgiving man. The point where i stopped giving the business my custom is when i ordered the duck curry. Apparently the duck is a separate up charge on the menu. That is ok, I understand you are a small business and errors like that happen. But when i bring this up to the woman who acts (To the best of my knowledge) as a manager of the location She adds an additional 2.50 to the bill to account for an error making me in the end pay an additional 6.50 to the bill. I feel this is a blemish on what could otherwise be an AMAZING establishment. Maybe i've just come on bad days. I will plan on revisiting the location in a few months to reassess my review of the location. I want want WANT to give this restaurant high scores, their chicken pad thai is to die for. Its just a shame that a customer service died before i...
