You have got to try Fox's Den Boardgame Cafe in Blountville!!! A friend and I wanted to get a coffee flight and dessert pairing, not really knowing what to expect and we had such a great experience. I moderately like coffee, and am more of flavored creamer with a splash of coffee kind of girl, but I LOVE dessert!
When we walked in the ladies behind the counter were kind and welcoming. We told them it was our first visit and we wanted to try out the Coffee Flight, and they rolled out the red carpet. They were truly excited to share, and asked us if we had time to wait and get the full experience from the owner, who would be with us shortly. We are so glad we waited!
While waiting we took a look around, and it is truly a great atmosphere. Nice decorations, a wall of games and a wall of books, and it was CLEAN! The tables, chairs, floors, and the restrooms were all spotless. It's decorated in a fun and inviting manor without being too sterile or to cluttered. They have rooms in the back that (for a small and very reasonable fee) can be used for parties, book club, etc.
Then the real fun began. The owner rolled out a cart of coffee paraphernalia and 3 amazing looking desserts. We let the staff pick the coffee and dessert pairing, and after asking us a few questions they hit their recommendation out of the ballpark. The only thing I can compare it to is a wine and cheese tasting with a passionate and knowledgeable guy who is the most down to earth and fun "tour guide" ever. I know very little about coffee, and confessed my dislike of black coffee. He walked us through the process, different grinds, brewing methods etc. He explained flavor profiles, had a little flavor wheel and had us try to guess what we were tasting. He did it all with such personality I never felt "judged" for being way off. LOL. He even had some milk and sugar in case I didn't want to try it black, saying it didn't hurt his feelings if I used it, he just wanted us to have fun and try something new.
It was a terrific experience. At first glance I thought it looked pricey, however, it included 3 FULL SIZED amazing desserts, more coffee than my friend and I could drink, and an actual mini-class on coffee. It was like getting dinner and a show! We did the flight of 3, and took home some dessert. 2 or 3 people can easily split a flight. As an added bonus they have several gluten free dessert options, and trust me when I say that they are so good you can't tell the difference between gluten and GF desserts. My husband has to be gluten free, so I can't wait to take him there to try it out. It is so great to see a small business that gets it and really cares about their product. Thanks Bronson (sp?)...
Read moreI’m not usually one to leave a bad review and I’m hoping they were just having an off day. Was heading to the animal shelter down the road to drop off a foster to be fixed on surgery day and our vet tech was moving slow and asked for a pick me up to stop and get her a coffee. We were already almost to the shelter and remembered we always passed this cute little coffee shop so decided to stop and give it a try. Very cute establishment, very nice family working but I did not expect to be there waiting for 3 coffees for over 45 minutes. Especially when two were just black pour overs. Our receipt said 7:26 we didn’t get in the car to leave until 8:09 but the worst part was the coffee was awful. Mine and my husband’s was watered down tasting. I asked the vet tech when I picked up my kitten later that day how hers was and she said watered down hospital coffee. You definitely don’t expect to get coffee like that from a small coffee shop. A gas station maybe but not a coffee shop. Like i said it looks really nice inside and the family working were very nice. But it was way too long of a wait for watered...
Read moreThe idea of a game Cafe in the Tri-ciyies is fantastic. And The Fox's Den is starting out strong! With a quality selection of well-cared-for games, you can enjoy many hours here with friends and family. The game selection will satisfy all but the most demanding. It has game approving appropriate for all ages and at many levels of complexity. The game fee seems fair - even affordable given the discount for 4 players at a table. (In Philadelphia, a game library of 800+ games charges $7/person for a strictly enforced 2 hour time slot).
What could be better (and I suspect is in the longer term plan): Food Selection - without a robust menu, it makes spending hours less appealing. The pastries are fine but most veer toward sweet. Breakfast sandwiches, bottomless coffee option, or shared plates would be nice. A few party favorites like pizza, fries, wings - things to munch on - would strengthen the experience into the afternoon and evening. Ideally, a point of locally brewed beer would really elevate the fun.
Definitely check...
