This restaurant is worth writing a review about. I would even go far as to write it in the newspaper so more people could read it. The man who greeted me had me laughing and the valet who took our car was courteous. He seated us on the dock, and then later came by to check on us and make sure we liked the food. When we came in I was actually in my bathing suit and my wet friend was with me because had just finished kayaking. They didn't even seem to notice or care. The food is what you would get in a 5-star restaurant, and the ambiance is relaxed and chill in the best way possible. Non-pretentious quality food. I mean, the stuffed grouper was one of the best fishes I have ever had. And I've had a lot of fish. I need a paragraph to write this about this dish.
The fish was obviously fresh, and cooked to perfection. It was moist, glistening, and fell apart on the fork. It was stuffed with crab meat that was equally as delicious. Then they also had cheese and breading between the crab meat and the fish which acted as a glue so you could easily have a bite with the fish and the crab meat on your fork. It also gave this great combination of textures and made my tongue sing with satisfaction. There was also a top-notch bernaise sauce over the entire thing which made this dish amazing. It was worth writing home about, and after trying it, it would be hard to order anything else. It was so so so delicious. If you go, definitely try this dish.
The other things that were ordered was the coconut shrimp appetizer. The sauce that came with it is definitely made in-house and really complimented the shrimp. My friend said I was to die for and actually was dipping his fingers in the sauce and licking it off his fingers, it was that good. The shrimp was cooked perfectly, and also had a great texture. I now understand why everyone recommends it. And the presentation factor is WOW. If you go with a date she would be thoroughly impressed if you ordered this dish.
My friend ordered the fish and chips. That item was the only thing I wasn't super impressed with. The breading was not fluffy and crispy enough and they served it with fries that were out of the bag instead of the traditional hand cut chips. The tartar sauce and slaw were good, and the dish was good, but there is room for improvement.
This place is amazing. If you are in the area it's a must visit. It will deliver--And sit on the dock-- I saw a bald eagle when I was out there. It was so peaceful I didn't want to leave and ordered dessert. The key lime didn't disappoint.
And the server was the best I have had in 3 years. I left him an extra 20 just for being great.
Take a date. Or just go and enjoy yourself. It's perfect for...
Read moreCoconut Jack's has a great & lively energy (we were there this past Saturday night) and it has a terrific location directly on one of the inlet canals. It makes for a pleasant time over dinner. Additionally, the server(s) were pleasant and relatively attentive.
However, the food is mediocre at best, and even that is a very generous assessment. My wife ordered grilled Grouper, and it came utterly overcooked and dried out. Regardless of how it is prepared (grilled, blackened, broiled...), Grouper should never be so overcooked that it becomes dry and stiff. Secondly, I ordered the "Scallop Basket" which consisted of five grilled sea scallops served over a bed of French fries. I totally understand that scallops should/need only be lightly cooked so that they stay succulent and tender (especially on the inside), I get it. In fact, I enjoy a scallop served raw when, for example, it's part of a sushi dish. This dish is not that nor is it supposed to be. My scallops were just barely seared on the outside (as they should be), however they were totally uncooked on the inside. It's not the texture that is supposed to characterize such a dish. Lightly cooked on the inside? Yes sure, absolutely. Totally raw on the inside? No. And, not for nothing, but at least serve an even half dozen. I know that scallops and scallop dishes are expensive, but only 5 scallops?! That's a weird number; why not 4 2/3 or 5 3/8? lol
Finally, the drinks/cocktails were incredibly weak. My brother in law had a "Cat 5 Hurricane" which is supposed to be their serious, "painkiller" cocktail, and my BIL said that there was practically no liquor in the drink. Similarly, my Mojito tasted as if there was no rum in it, while my wife had a Bloody Mary that I tasted out of curiosity because she too said that the drink was weak. She was right, I could barely taste any vodka in it. Sure, I get it, the vodka is never supposed to overwhelm a Bloody Mary, but you should at least be able to taste that it is at least present in the cocktail lol. This nonsense with ripping people off with inadequate cocktails in terms of liquor/alcohol content is b.s. There is simply no excuse for a bar or restaurant to be so cheap with the liquor. No excuse whatsoever. None. The markup on a bottle of liquor used to make mixed drinks should preclude such nonsense.
Therefore, if all you want is a burger, or if you're looking for an inviting place to dine, right on the water and that has a great and energetic vibe, then this place is for you. However, if you're looking for a tasty, properly cooked seafood dinner, with tasty, adequate & fair cocktails, stay away from this place. They don't know how to cook seafood and their cocktails are lame... just lame, a...
Read moreIt pains me to write this review, but I am pissed off. We moved to Naples February of last year and coconut. Jack’s was one of the first restaurants that we were referred to. Our first experience was very nice, the food was really good, the beer was cold and the service was great and we walked out with three or four T-shirts. Our second and third experience were good as well, but our last experience just soured us and we were very disappointed. we took a motorcycle ride on Monday to treat ourselves and there was only a handful of people in the whole restaurant. That was strange because every time we got in there before there was always a lot of people. We ordered a couple of beers and the grouper basket which we were going to share assuming there would be a nice piece of fish or three maybe four pieces of nice size, fish and crispy french fries per the menu. What came out was overcooked pieces of grouper. There was one medium piece, one smaller piece and then three or four nuggets that were all overcooked and the french fries look like they had sat for a while before being served because they were limp/not freshly cooked and served. My Wife took a few bites and pushed the fish to me so I ate the coleslaw and the fish because I was hungry and I wasn’t gonna send it back because you know how that works. We didn’t even touch the french fries. Surprised us the waiter never asked how our meal was nor did the, what look like the manager on our way out and one other employee never asked how we liked our food or experience because if they had I would’ve had to have told them. I wanted to say something to the waiter, but my wife asked me not to. The fish basket was $27 and the beer was six dollars so $35 +6 dollar tip $41 and it was terrible. I don’t know what the problem was, did the owners sell to someone else? Based on the new prices and our last experience, we won’t...
