Great experience, have gone several times over the years.
Our menu choice was lobster which included a cup of seafood chowder with oyster crackers, two lobsters, boiled onion, hard boiled egg, steamed clams in the shell with rinsing water, corn in the cob, baked potato and melted butter. This is all cooked in large containers over a wood fire, I believe surrounded with sea weed and covered with a tarp to help steam everything, it's cooked next to the water where you go to get your food served on a tray to return to you table. Bring your ticket when you go to get your food. For drinks they have complimentary water and iced tea. Pepsi products and alcoholic beverages are additional cost along with a tip jar, so bring some cash with you. For dessert they serve a generous slice of Maine blueberries cake, I don't believe they have changed the recipe over the years as it has always been kinda dry according to everyone in our party.
Wonderful wait staff, and very accommodating assisting us with one member in our party with a wheelchair.
Currently, (2025), for reserved parties of 10 or more they require a deposit ahead of time and a 15% gratuity.
They only take cash and checks for payment, ATM near the ticket booth. Currently price is about $100.00 per person for the lobster meal with other food options available at a different price.
This price includes a boat ride to the island that takes about 45 minutes and return trip that takes about 15 to 20 minutes. The boat captain did a nice to job of explaining the sites we passed along the way. There is also a restroom, beverage and snack bar on the double decker boat.
The island is in Linekin bay. They had badminton and a couple corn hole games and I believe a horseshoe setup. There is also a gift shop and restroom inside a building that has both inside and...
Read moreCabbage Island is more of an experience than it is about the actual meal. The boat ride over us about 30m. Arriving on the island is like being embraced by your great aunt. The views around the island are classic Maine and the staff, mostly all family, are welcoming and attentive. There are yard games everywhere including badminton, corn hole, giant Jenga, Jarts and others. They have a gift shop, of course, and full bar offerings. You can find seating under cover or on one of the many picnic tables around the island. It's a place that encourages conversation, whether with those you know or those you're going to. It's hard to share a meal of lobster and clams without making some kind of chatter, especially if there are first timers in the midst. And Cabbage Island seems to host a lot of newbies. Maybe it's because, like I mentioned, the family vibe. Everyone has advice for the first time lobster eaters, claws first, claws last, use a pick, use a fork, use your fingers, eat the legs, toss the legs (definitely not a Mainer), clean out all the meat and toss it into the butter, then eat it all at once (I can never wait that long!). It's a memorable day and the experience is never forgotten no matter how...
Read moreI can't even begin to describe how wonderful this experience is, but I'll give it a go if you will indulge me. From the very beginning, the staff was super friendly and courteous. They went out of their way to shake hands and greet you with a smile. They quite literally made me feel like I was a close family friend. If being treated in this way still isn't enough to convince you to drop $100 for a meal... Well... It isn't just a meal! The clambake was conducted on a small island off the coast of Boothbay that required a boat ride (with your guide esque narrative of the sights). Still not good enough? Well, they are not a two trick pony, the food was amazing. Two perfectly steamed lobsters, a pint of clams, potatoe, corn on the cob, egg, and an onion were the main course. The appetizer was fish chowder that was a bit light on fish but heavy on flavor. Before boarding the boat for the return trip, you are fed a delicious blueberry cake and invited to visit the quaint gift shop. Hopefully I've convinced you to give this a go, you will not be...
