Pros and cons are the easiest reviews to read so let’s do that :) Pros: -location is stunning. The views from every space are breathtaking. -So close to Booth Bay! -close to Booth Bay Lobster Wharf where we are twice in two days. -Housekeeping, Outdoor dining staff were outstanding. Always helpful and always friendly -food was great -friendly handyman -contra dancing! Cons: -parking is tricky for larger vehicles -sewage smell on the front lawn after lots of rain -no air conditioning in some rooms is rough on muggy Maine nights Sadly, the biggest problem we had in our two night stay was with a problem with our sink and how the manager handled it. I can’t explain that in pots and cons so will expand here. On the first night (stayed in the Main Building) our sink wouldn’t drain. We called the front desk and a handyman arrived shortly after. We were heading into town and he had several hours to troubleshoot the problem. We came back to the room 2 hours later and he was still in the room trouble shooting. At this point I went to the front desk to see what could be done, as we were unable to access the bathroom to can ready to head back to town. I asked about changing rooms (though didn’t really want to pack up and move). The person at the desk was very kind but said he needed to call his manager for assistance. The manager came to meet us and said she would need 10 minutes to speak with her handyman about the problem. I asked about a discount on the room we were unable to access for several hours and she said “I don’t really want to talk about that until I talk with the handyman”. When I mentioned we’d been out of the room already for several hours, she rolled her eyes as though I was exaggerating (which I wasn’t) She also told me we were welcome to be in the room while the handyman was working. Mind you, the bathroom was full of tools and he was sitting on the toilet watching the sink not drain. I told her that was weird to suggest. To me, she might have led with “I’m sorry for this inconvenience! It must be frustrating. Let me see what I can do, please go have a drink and a snack in the restaurant and I’ll get back to you asap”. But she didn’t say that. So we were left to wander around the property and went on our own to the restaurant to get a drink when it started to rain and we had no room to go to. The manager called me 30 minutes later. She said she walked around the resort looking for us but couldn’t find us which was why 10 minutes became 30. She had my cell number (which she asked for) so I’m not sure why she didn’t call. She said she was sorry but we’d have to move rooms because the problem was bigger than the handyman expected. She sent a an uncovered cart for us to move all of our luggage in the pouring rain. She young woman who helped us move was lovely. The new room was on the far side of the resort with no air conditioning. After a lot of inconvenience she gave us $100 credit and called it a day. I’d rather have had her sincere concern and help. But there you have it. The manager was really the only reason we won’t be returning. Things happen and we realize that, but when your business is hospitality, be hospitable.

I wasnt sure how many stars to give this review as there were awesome parts of staying at this resort and other parts that would make me not stay there again in the future. I found this resort by chance on TikTok. Mahawie Lodge rooms are spacious and beautiful. You can't beat the amazing view, and the adirondack chairs provided on the private deck were a plus. These are air conditioned, but the rooms were still a bit sticky in the late August heat. If you do stay in these, ask for the rooms that are on "ground level" and not the lower level that have rooms above them. You can hear every movement above you. This resort is geared towards families with kids. So if the person above you is up at 5am, so are you. We could hear the family above us before the sun was up -- over our sound machine and fans we brought. Even though it was clear in our reservation that there were 3 people staying, there weren't enough towels and bedding provided. The ice machine was also super far from our room. The breakfast provided at the resort was good and had a variety of options. The main reasons my husband, mother and I booked this resort was for the views, privacy and the restaurant overlooking the ocean. The views and privacy were great. I wont ever step foot in that restaurant again though. It was so disappointing! The three of us walked in there on a Monday night around 5 o'clock. We were greeted by a woman with a confused look and no smile, and we were asked if we had a reservation. When we said no, her and another staff proceeded to mumble in their native tongue. The restaurant was empty. EMPTY. No one was in there. We just wanted to sit down, have a few drinks and play some cards. The woman who was working wasnt even going to seat us and had to ask for a manager to see if we could sit down. Then a man seated us finally and got a drink order. It took almost 20 minutes to get one drink - even with no patrons in the restaurant. We quickly finished them up and closed out as soon as we could. We weren't about to spend money in a place that we weren't wanted. After spending nearly $500 a night, I had a higher expectation for the restaurant and how they treat their guests. I can't even review their food, because we never got the opportunity to eat there. We ended up going into Boothbay, getting pizza, and bringing it back to our room. We're from MN and used to kinder staff at resorts. With that said, the gentleman at the front desk was very nice. Overall, Im glad we stayed there to see the place and how unique and beautiful it was. But for the cost, the poor service at the restaurant, and the hard-to-get-to location, we probably wouldn't stay there again.

So much potential, but needs work!! .. Positives: beautiful scenery, location is close to town, staff was mostly friendly, restaurant food was excellent. Negatives: housekeeping was subpar, all areas seemed understaffed, no tv or air conditioning in our cabin, cannot get a hold of anyone on the phone. .. Overall, my family (6 adults) enjoyed our stay, but there were many concerns. This was our first time in Maine. Many people kept indicating we were "not in season yet".... almost like we were an inconvenience for traveling in early June? Was very strange and sad to be made to feel that way, having traveled far to come here. .. LODGING: Loved the Clipper Cabin (previously Linekin Cabin), but it did not have air conditioning, enough lighting or even enough adirondack chairs on the deck. Comfortable beds. Loved the private location of the cabin and it's proximity to the gym/sauna/ pickleball. 2 great reserved parking spots. Plenty of space for a group of 6 adults. Wish it had a/c and tvs and more outdoor seating. Don't know how anyone would fare staying here overnight in the height of the summer heat. I understand LBR used to be a summer camp, but you now classify yourselves as a resort and you market yourselves as somewhat luxury. Air conditioning and televisions are modern amenities that should be provided unless explicitly stated that it's not provided prior to booking. .. HOUSEKEEPING: Needs improvement. They did not replenish supplies including toilet paper!!! Had to ask for toilet paper, new towels and soaps every single day. Had to ask them to sweep/vacuum our dirty floors, otherwise they didn't do it. .. FOOD & BEVERAGE: Breakfast buffet was nice, but they did not refill the buffet enough for the amount of people eating. Was a lot of standing around waiting for more food to be brought out, and the resort wasn't even at full capacity. But The Deck Bar & Grill was fabulous, dinner food was excellent! Dining staff was honestly the nicest and hardest working staff we encountered. .. WATER SPORTS: The process for taking out kayaks felt extremely unsafe, they took down your name in the sail shack and then said "paddles are over there, kayaks are down there" and sent you on your way. No one was at the dock to assist with getting in/out of the kayaks. No one was there to teach proper technique. My sister had an issue with her kayak out in the middle of the bay and no staff were around to rescue or assist. I would hope this is different "in-season" when more families with kids are here. But again, as full paying guests, safety should be a top priority regardless of the season/month. .. STAFF / COMMUNICATIONS: We could never get a hold of anyone prior to our stay. We left voicemails & even messaged on social media to try and get our questions answered. How can a hotel not have someone answering phones/messages? Also, I swear we didn't see any staff over the age of 20 and didn't see any managers. Felt like the place was being run by teens. .. ENTERTAINMENT: Don't know if it's because we were (again) "not in season yet" or if it's always this way, but there was nothing in the form of community entertainment. We had a few lousy weather days and had absolutely nothing to do on-site. There should be scheduled programs and activities since LBR is a resort. Bingo, trivia, happy hour, ping pong competition, arts and crafts, movie night, etc for some ideas. .. In summary, if it's not "in season" and you can't meet your standard, don't be open. Period. Or indicate on your website that amenities will be "less than" until later in the summer. Not having enough staff, supplies or entertainment to function shouldn't be the guest's issue. For $4,000 for 4 nights, we weren't overly thrilled. Would we come back to LBR? Maybe, but probably not unless things change. Again, BEAUTIFUL scenery made us happy, but picturesque grounds only get you so far when...

Sadly, the biggest problem we had in our two night stay was with a problem with our sink and how the manager handled it. I can’t explain that in pots and cons so will expand here.
