Located just off Historic Route 1, in Ladysmith, Virginia, sits the home of a sweet little tearoom named Cuppa Cheer. A welcoming sign invites you inside a peaceful nook where tea and conversation flow in equal measure. This cottage-style tearoom is designed with sage and rose floral chintz curtains, white laced tablecloths and parasols suspended from the ceiling for a whimsical flair. Owner, Terrie, wanted her tearoom to be appealing but not too frilly. She nailed it. Offering old-world hospitality, her tearoom is casual and cozy.
Depending on your appetite, the tea menu provides plenty of options from a âSpot of Teaâ, a pot of tea, two scones and fruit to the âDilly-Dally Teaâ which includes two pots of tea, four scones both savory and sweet, tea sandwiches, fruit, cheese, cruditĂ©s, pastries and petite desserts. With the set menu changing monthly, you may be served such delightful tea sandwiches as cherry-walnut cream cheese, lavender chicken salad, avocado egg salad, carrot raisin sweet sandwich, tuna baby-pea crostini and the classic cucumber and cream cheese. The savory scones may include spring onion and cheddar while the sweet selection may be a peach cobbler scone. If you are lucky, you may come in time for the strawberry cupcakes and the homemade chocolate fudge. We enjoyed every morsel and the service was superb!
Tea drinkers wonât be overwhelmed with an extensive tea menu. Terrie thoughtfully offers a selection of about fifteen choices ranging from classic teas like Earl Grey and English Breakfast to green teas, herbal and fruit teas, oolong teas and chai teas. Thereâs a tea for every taste! Itâs Earl Grey for me!
After tea, be sure to enjoy shopping in Cuppa Cheerâs corner gift shop. Filled with not only tea caddies, teacups, teapots and books, this shop is also brimming with hand-crafted items such as greeting cards, tea cozies, tea coasters, jewelry, wreaths and more. You may even find an elegant hat that suits your fancy. Be sure to browse around the tearoom dotted with tasteful tea dĂ©cor and take a gander at the tea chandelier and the teacup quilt both hanging in the craft room.

Cuppa Cheer is my favorite place to take a friend to relax and linger for a couple of hours over tea (and lunch). Open from 10am to 4pm, Wednesday through Saturday, offering seating for up to 13 guests, there are all sorts of possibilities. I ate there last week with a party of 13 and today with a party of three. Both experiences were delightful and came off smoothly. Terrie has the gift of hospitality and is an excellent chef. Cuppa Cheer is a hidden gem in the Ladysmith area, and itâs time you discovered it, too, if you havenât already.

Read moreI recently attended a friends baby shower here and I cannot say enough wonderful things about this sweet place. The atmosphere was so beautiful, warm and welcoming. I felt like a royal princess having tea. The music in the background was such a thoughtful touch that truly set the tone. The attention to detail was second to none: from the carefully prepared delicious food, to the meticulously set table, the flavorful fresh teas, gorgeous serve ware, and top notch service were all SUCH a sweet delight. On top of our great experience at the table, the owner was such an incredibly kind woman who was happy to share with me where the delicious crackers were purchased from. That meant so much to be because I know it can be a touchy subject when it comes to a restaurants recipes Etc. But she didnât mind the question at all. It was such a privilege to experience the result of her creativity that day.
All in all, I may have to make the 2 hour drive just so I can bask in this glorious experience once again. Please, if you havenât already- make the trip to this gem. Itâs absolutely positively one of the sweetest experiences youâll have....
