I moved to the area about 2 years ago and pass this diner on my way home from work every day. I didn't even register its existence for approximately 6 months as it's tucked into the plaza it's in, the signage is modest, and the other businesses in the plaza look a bit run down. Any assumptions I had about this diner previously were absolutely blown away. The service was PHENOMENAL. Everyone in that place is so nice and friendly. The waitress went out of her way to make me a vanilla milkshake even though it's not on the menu. To my surprise and delight, the milkshake wasn't purely ice cream, it was banana and milk, perfectly sipable. At this point, I realize this diner is Portuguese. I am Portuguese, so the milkshake, the roosters (Portugal's national animal), and the cleanliness provided so much nostalgia. The bifana (sandwich) and super thin shoestring French fries were delicious, complete with gravy. The French toast is made with Portuguese sweet bread. The blueberry pancake was so hot and fresh, one of the blueberries exploded upon cutting into it. My dress was stained, but it was well worth it! I mentioned the cleanliness. This place was SPOTLESS. The construction is new. I was seated by an open window, and the breeze rolling through was delightful on a perfect day. The windows are brand new and pristinely clean. I was there on a beautiful day, and the way the sun hits all the beautiful, light blue tiling is so pretty! The place wasn't loud at all, even as it started to get busy as I was heading out. The atmosphere is just so beautiful, welcoming, and comfortable. To top it all off, the pricing is very reasonable. My husband and I ordered enough for 3-4 people and it was still well under $60. Definitely check this place out if you...
Read moreWe have a new heavy hitter here in the breakfast and lunch scene in greater Worcester! Located right in Boylston on 140, couple minutes from Great Brook Valley, is Bread and Butter Diner. I like to go somewhere multiple times to get a good feeling of quality and consistency. This place delivers everytime! The owners are great, the staff is accommodating and makes you feel like family. The food? Some of THE BEST breakfast and lunch food I have had in recent times. Pictured here are Elenas Potatoes and Eggs, the house Monte Cristo, the Bifana sandwich, the Chopped Cheese sandwich, and lastly the Portuguese Benedict. The presentation makes me think I'm in a high end restaurant on many of the items, and the flavor? WOW. Chris relies on his Portuguese heritage to dream up some fantastic combinations that just come together into these amazing dishes. The au jus Portuguese gravy that is served with his spin on the classic Portuguese bifana sandwich is absolutely next level, my fiancée talks about it all the time now! Serious flavor, serious food, in a great setting. 11 out of 10....
Read moreI had breakfast at the Bread & Butter Diner with a friend, and I have been wanting to go back ever since!! It's an old diner with counter service and a area off to the side with small tables. It has a reasonably-sized menu; not too many, not too few choices. The waitstaff greeted us promptly and invited us to seat ourselves (we chose the counter) gave us menus and served us coffee and tea right away. The food took a little while to come, but they seemed to be doing a brisk business inside as well as with takeout orders. When the food came. it was GREAT; I had the ham and cheese omelet and my friend had the veggie omelet, and they were both delicious. The toast was nice and warm, the homefries were perfect. The only reason I gave it 4 stars on service instead of 5 was because the meals were a little slow to appear, and we didn't get any updates. Overall, it was a delicious and satisfying experience and I can't...
