Blu Tavern Restaurant & Motel — Restaurant in Branch Township

We have been going to the Blu for years, specifically for the Easter buffet and it has never been a great experience. Every year the service is lacking. The food is fine but never great. We continue to go back because our family is large and spread out and the restaurant is centrally located and open on the holiday. But never again.

The service is awful every single year. Slow, inattentive. Last year we waited 25 minutes for a set of clean flatware and a carafe of coffee. This year, we didn’t even get our drinks until after we had already eaten and even then it was because we served them to ourselves. And the restaurant was not even 1/2 full and had just opened.

I've been here twice already. Servers are all very nice. First time I had a hot roast beef with mashed potatoes and it was awesome! Second time I had the chicken carbonara. They use way to heavy of a whipping cream in this dish which makes in very rich. I think a light cream would be much, much better. The ice tea had a funky flavor to it so I had to exchange it for a soda. My date had a stuffed fish dish that he did not enjoy. So my take is it's a hit or miss. Overall, I would go back for the hot roast beef ! The dining room could also use some updating as well as the bathrooms. When you sit on a toilet your knees touch the doors. That could easily be remedied by moving the door frames out a bit. It did have a nice fire going in...

Food was fantastic! We sat at a table in the bar area but were able to order off of the full menu... We opted for pizza and sandwiches but will try entrees another time for sure. I got the calamari... it was done perfectly... very lightly breaded and flash fried... exactly as it should be... tender, light with great marinara and a lemon wedge. I also got a small blu tavern special pizza... onion, ground beef and mushrooms... for a prepared crust it was excellent!! My wife got a cheesesteak....holy huge!! $9.95 we brought half of it home... sorry no pictures, the food was so good it didn't last long enough to get any shots!! Great place, great experience, fantastic food... we will be back...
