Tampa's Must-Try Eats: Hong BBQ & Hot Pot in Brandon

I recently had the chance to visit Hong BBQ & Hot Pot in Brandon with a close friend, and it was an experience worth sharing. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with a warm, inviting atmosphere. The space was clean, modern, and comfortable — the perfect setting for a long, enjoyable meal. We decided to dive right into the hot pot experience, and the variety of fresh ingredients immediately stood out. The broth options ranged from mild and comforting to bold and spicy, giving us plenty of choices. Every ingredient — from the crisp vegetables to the fresh seafood and tender cuts of meat — was top-notch. Cooking everything right at the table made the meal feel interactive and fun, and each bite was flavorful and perfectly prepared. The BBQ side of the menu was just as impressive. The marinated meats were tender, juicy, and packed with flavor, while the staff kept our grill clean and ready for each new round. The assortment of dipping sauces and condiments made it easy to customize each bite to our tastes. My friend couldn’t stop talking about how fresh and flavorful everything was, and how much variety there was to enjoy. They said it’s the kind of place you could visit over and over and never have the same experience twice. I’ve also tried Hong BBQ’s vegetarian offerings on past visits, and they are equally delicious. The fresh vegetables, mushrooms, and flavorful broths make it a great choice for non-meat eaters too. Whether you’re a fan of savory meats, fresh seafood, or plant-based options, Hong BBQ & Hot Pot in Brandon delivers a high-quality dining experience that’s both memorable and fun. We’ll definitely be going back — and next time, we’re bringing more friends.

The waiter was so rude she completely ignored us, yes today was Mother’s Day and a very busy day but she would ask the people behind us and to our side for updates and drinks while ignoring us!! She gave us the wrong drinks which thank god another waiter helped on fixing, every time we did get her attention she would slam the plates on the table and talked to us like we didn’t understand English which was so awkward ( we are all fluent in English) she kept forgetting to “fly” our order to the kitchen and to top it off tried charging us Coronas!!! We never consumed alcohol!! And she tried fighting us claiming we drank it up front she was generally just rude to us and I have to assume it was our looks out of her 3 tables she just ignored and made faces to us I can say we only ordered a few extra items which never came until we flagged another waiter while the folks in the back got over 16 trips of raw meats and vegetables and didn’t even consume 60% of it and struggled and fought her with the bill asking for discounts!!! lol we don’t drink beer!!! Over all bill was over 125$ for 2 adults and a child ALL for bad service and zero all you can choose menu items.. a RUDE WAITER and ZERO input from a manager, you ruined my Mother’s Day dinner for me but it’s ok I will not ever return.

Food :: Comparing to Nine Spice and KPOT - the price of the offering vs what you get is not really worth it. The portions were weird and thin, certain things tasted weird, bulgogi didn’t really taste like bulgogi. The Snack bar was also not there - like the soy sauce was definitely not soy sauce (light brown creamy.??). For the price of one option here I get bigger portions and more options at the other two places mentioned.

Service :: The waitresses and staff were very nice. The only issue we had was there were times where we waited 10 minutes for meat we ordered to arrive. It pissed my husband off a bit and we ended up having to asked about it to get it. I don’t know if this is something that is normal or just a one time thing.

Atmosphere :: The decor was really well done. The only thing that confused me was the plate sizing - they were really tiny which I guess works for the tiny portions? Other than that it was clean and well themed.

Overall :: This place definitely has the bone structure to be really great - however, some things were blatantly obvious when it comes to showing methods...
