Mudbugs 042 — Restaurant in Brandon

My wife and I are very fond of crawfish and have eaten them at every location in the Jackson area. Mudbugs 042 is, by far, the best place for these tasty critters! One of the most defining qualities of good crawfish is that they will "strip-out" while eating them. That is to say, when you pull off the tail and grip the exposed tail meat with your fingers or teeth, give the end of the tail a little pinch and pull; the tail meat should come out of the shell. Anybody can make them spicy (and MB does) - just dump the seasoning in the boiling water and you have spicy. The trick is the cooking time and the finish. If you cook them too long, they become rubbery and the tail meat will simply break off and will not strip-out. There is nothing worse than having to peal every single tail, layer by layer, to get to the coveted tail meat inside. At MB042, the tails strip out 99.99% of the time!!! Whoever is in charge of the cooking, please give that person a raise and keep him/her happy! Don't like to eat crawfish? No problem. The menu has a very nice selection of delicious shrimp, crab legs, wings, ribs, burgers, etc. Beverages range from ice tea and soda to can beer (can buy a bucket of iced beer cans) and a variety of beers on tap. As for the staff, we have been numerous times this year (2019) and everyone has been wonderful! We also love that MB042 management has a Sheriff Deputy on weekends to monitor the parking lot and prevent people from hogging up the parking there while walking to other businesses in the vicinity. Whether you want to eat onsite or get 'em to go, Mudbugs 042 serves some of the best crawfish I have ever eaten. Enjoy! 2023 update: still just as good as ever. Tonight was the first time we have eaten there. I did not even know this place existed. Now I see why. We had a big party and I do understand service is slow when there is a lot of people in a party. However why would you take two or three people‘s orders bring their food and then come back and take a couple of more orders and bring their food? When people go out to eat together. They expect to eat together. The crawfish was so Spicy you could not eat it. The crab legs tasted mushy like they had been cooked and re-cooked. It took 30 minutes to bring an order of crab legs that I’m sure were already cooked. I had to go to the bar to even get the waitress just to come back to the table and take out order! It took at least 10 minutes just for her to take our check and run a card to pay it! There were about 12 people in our party and It is unanimous that we will never be back there!!!! Oh and the nachos cheese was cold. The bun to the burger felt like it just came out of the refrigerator which made the rest of the burger cold. Date night for my husband and I. We usually head to Jackson or Madison to dine but, wanted to stay local tonight. I first called to be sure they were open. We were informed they had sold out of crawfish but, there were other items on the menu. Which worked for me! I dont eat crawfish! My husband got the shrimp, I enjoyed the sausage.
