UPDATE ! It was a 5 star review now only 2 . New review here old one follows 2.0 star rating5/25/2023 The experience I had this time unlike the first time was not as good at all. Some of the food was lacking flavor, and presentation , so was service, and we were seated in a area that was very very dark, very poor lighting. They serve you complimentary bean salad and Cole slaw. They are ok, you also get a fresh loaf of bread, the bread is good. The waitress was very tired we arrived at 3 pm. and yet she was very slow and didn't take our used dishes away, I kept asking ppl to remove them as our table was getting stacked with all the plates, so another waitress was taking our used plates and garbage , she never offered any refills on our drinks or water (refreshed) only alcohol drinks. (only 1 of us had) . We ordered the Sampler platter that was Chicken , Shrimp, Steak. The chicken and shrimp was wonderful steak was cooked good, although it did lack flavor. The mushroom soup was very good. I had ordered Lobster tail it was delish and scallop potatoes they were divine. Others had ordered Chicken and BBQ Ribs . I did try the Chicken and it was grilled and very well flavored. I had went there last year and they had 5 stars on my google , prior to this experience. This visit was far differnt as are most of them. The waitress fell and crashed into me and my knee was swollen for a few days, (her knee had crashed into mine) due to the fact she couldn't see very well, because its so dark in there. People next to our table was reading there menu with there lights from the phones. I did call the restaurant the next day to find out how the waitress was feeling I did ask for the manager, they told me to call back at 3, I did, then they told me to call back at 8, I did, he wasnt available at either times so then, they said call tomorrow, I said no, he can call me. I spoke to Brittney and told her what had happened and she said he would call me. He never did. Sadly after this experience I wont be returning back due to all the times I tried to reach out to them. Oh yes and it doesn't have nothing to do with the man who had a heart attack On the other side of the restaurant and died . It was just poor service and not the best presentation. (old review ) follows here 1 yr ago .Wonderful food service was on point . Everything was delish. I will say the salad should have some tomatoes mine had 1 and the steak wasn't what I expected. The lobster was awesome. The bread and the sampler plate and lamb was off the charts! The flavors were fabulous. And the dessert was nice and the kids loved it. The ambiance was nice, kind of ol school and the music to match. My family brought me here for my birthday. And it was lovely. So yes I recommend for all ppl. Will go back again. Plz try their appetizer the "Sampler" it wont disappoint, and also the bruschetta it was phenomenal. My man loved his ribs as well. The last 6 pics are from 2023 the 2022 is...
Read moreI have been to Jack Gibbons many, many times. My father loves their filets and I particularly enjoy their grilled chicken. Usually I am satisfied with their dinners but I left extremely disappointed. Firstly, I made a reservation for five. The lady on the phone asked for my first name and phone number, which I told her. When we got to the restaurant and I told her my name and for how many, she seemed like she couldn’t find my reservation. She asked if it was under a different name so I told her my last, even though I know she didn’t have it because she never asked for it. She ends up sitting my party of five at this booth that only sat four people with a chair pulled up to it. Very awkward seating. Not only that, but we were sat right under the speaker which was blasting Christmas music. I couldn’t hear a word my sister was saying, who was not even four feet away from me. I requested the music be turned down a bit, which they did, until nearing the end of our dinner where they turned it up again. We were considering ordering desert and a round of drinks but decided not to since we wouldn’t be able to hear our conversations. Secondly, I asked for a white sangria, I was given a white wine with a garnish. The fruit was not muddled. For the food, I ordered the grilled chicken and an add on lobster tail. The chicken, superb, as always. The lobster, not so much. In my experience, lobster should be soft and nearly cut like butter. This lobster was not. My father got his filet, my sister as well. Both were not up to standard. My sister said one side was done more than the other; mushy, while my father claimed his was a bit rubbery. Our server was very nice. On their menu it claims a 19% gratuity will be added to parties of five or more but I didn’t see it on the bill so I tipped 19%. I am a server myself, I have been for a while, so I know she was doing all she could do. I understand it was busy, but being the scale the restaurant is at with the high prices and class, I feel as if all of the complaints we’ve had tonight was not right. One or two things is bound to happen at a restaurant but the whole dinner was just very disappointing. I feel like I wasted my money. I’d very much like to rate lower but I’m trying to be fair based on the amount of times my dinner has gone well. I recommend not going around the holidays. Perhaps it was because they have been busy that our dinner was...
Read moreJack Gibbons Gardens is an iconic restaurant celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. Statistically, most restaurants fail in their first year, but not Jack Gibbons which is obviously doing many things right. The parking lot is always full and there is extra parking across the street if need be. The decor is absolutely 1970's retro with dark wood paneling and stained glass dome lights over most tables. The bar area is quite small and usually filled, because the experienced bartenders make great stiff drinks like a Wisconsin supper club. Bathrooms are always clean, another plus.
With regard to the food, portions are large with prices fairly matching. During my last six visits, service was great with no problems. Homemade coleslaw and three bean salad, in addition to a bread basket, are provided family style prior to your meal, and entrees include delicious homemade soup or salad. This is a steakhouse, after all, so expect aged, thick, perfectly-cooked juicy steaks. My only gripe, as others have noted, are very mild seasoning on the steaks, which unfortunately leaves the perfectly seared meat a bit on the bland side. Steaks are served with a pat of butter melting on top, to aid in their ease of sliding down your gullet. I recommend the excellent Prime rib as something you are unlikely to make at home and a more flavorful option. Lamb chops come 3 small chops bone-in and were a good option that I would order again, but falling a bit short of any fine dining Greek restaurant, again due to minimal seasoning. Roast duck with stuffing is another great option, but ask for extra stuffing and maybe gravy too if you want leftovers. Overall a great experience, and looking forward to...
