Disappointing experience. We came after long morning hike to refuel with a hardy lunch. We looked at the menu and were expecting a cheap and cheerful experience. We got a fried chicken plate with macaroni and cheese and okra, and as I bit into my chicken leg the first flavor I’m hit with is FISH. I thought maybe my taste buds were tired after a hike, so I had some tea, some okra, both just fine, then another bite of chicken, and FISH. I go to have some macaroni, served in 4 oz portion cup, to find it SOUPY, like someone added water to Kraft mac and cheese. I took one bite and not another. We also ordered a chicken sandwich and the chicken was HALF the size of the bread, and very tough. No refills on drinks, not even asked, or plus a server that just seemed to be on auto pilot just made for an overall disappointing experience.
EVERY patron we saw leaving the restaurant this day was 65+ so I was left with the impression that this cafe is catering to a crowd that’s more concerned with cost, rather than a quality, but I think with a few tweaks it could have been...
Read moreHonestly I didn't even want to give this place one star. They could learn about being courteous and polite. We ended up going to the country Skillet down the road were they were nothing but polite courteous and the food 100% better. My advice if you see this place keep going a little further till you get to the real restaurants with friendly people and better food... Now I get a response thinking that I'm their competitor leaving a review? That's even more sad than this restaurant I don't even live in the area. My husband and I stopped here on our way to the viewpoint. And even more so you're assuming I didn't eat there? Then you must remember exactly who I am and how rude you were and how quickly my husband put you in your place..So please don't make yourself look worse by trying to assume. Truth...
Read moreOur breakfast was excellent! I had a loaded 3-egg omelet and it was SO good. My husband ordered a wrap (basically a big burrito) with a side of sausage gravy, and our 7-year-old said the cinnamon French toast was the best he’s ever had... loved that the syrup came in a tiny mason jar! Cheesy potato casserole was also very tasty.
The cafe has such a classic, local charm, an older mountain building with maps, hiking info, and Panthertown memorabilia on the walls. It definitely feels like the spot for locals.
We drive up from Georgia about once a month and will definitely be back. My husband has been coming randomly for years but this was the first time we came with our four kiddos and felt really welcomed. Highly recommend if you want a hearty breakfast and a true...
