Came with my father & sister in law for their first time at a conveyor belt hot pot. Not my normal spot, but they wanted to give it a try because we were picking stuff up in the area.
Got in at 5:30pm on Saturday and was seated immediately, which was great, but that was the pinnacle of the evening and things strangely couldn't get any better. The booth we got was a 4 top and luckily I got a side to myself, but it looked like my FIL and SIL were pretty much elbow to elbow on top of each other- hard to imagine? Well the that just equated to the table not being able to hold many trays- 3 trays of meat and a handful of side dishes and the table was packed. I appreciated the hot buffet, but didn't try for it, since the objective of the night was hot pot. The options on the belt were nice and and honestly looked and tasted pretty good for the most part, but the belt kept switching between backwards and forwards randomly so the signs that listed what was coming next at times were pointless because they showed up after the actual dishes :P.
What really took away a good experience was that the staff only fulfilled 2 meat replenishment orders, the initial and one other even though they came 4 times, and each time after we just repeated that we ordered the same meats 3x already. When we finally got the 2nd round of meat, maybe an hour into service, ALL 3 sets came at the same time from different waiters and they looked at each other and without speaking to us, just dropped off the one set and disappeared again.
Overall, they could've done better, but unfortunately the first experience of 2 first timers was really tarnished and not worth the...
Read moreHow did this place survive covid? An out-of-the-way location, grubby looking diner setting, uncomfortable seating and questionable sanitation practices are just the impression from outside. Having to go in was hard, but the invitation was obligatory. Ordering was putting a couple marks on options with little description and hoping for the best- which I honestly did. These were the results: Air-thin frozen meat curls and half a small lobster tail arrived with drinks. A sad pot of broth was placed in front of each of us with a nod and a "sauces in the corner" hand gesture to somewhere out of sight. A scouting party found them on a wall by the kitchen. The idea here is to grab, after they've encountered every mouth breather in the place, off a conveyer belt. Yes, literally grab at saucers of some of the least appetizing items and drop them in your pot. Over and over. Until you're done. Or your body is. There were "desserts" that went by as well. A tiny "chocolate mousse" and a "cheesecake". Both were dollhouse sized and seemed to be made of rubber. They had tiny spoons to insist they're edible, but couldn't after the initial mouthfeel and lack of flavor. The dinner concluded and our host paid. Overpaid. I'm a healthy guy, my body is strong. My body did not want that food in there and purged itself 20 mins after we left. Round n round pot again. The name makes it forgettable. The experience made...
Read moreRound n Round Hot Pot has the conveyor belt delivery system, which, to me, adds to the AYCE eating experience.
Each person enjoys from their personal hot pot instead of a giant communal pot. Love personalize. So many choices. Just because it’s a personal hot pot doesn’t mean you can’t still eat family style. The benefit of eating with chopsticks is that extra reach.
Select your broth Select your meat (which is AYCE) Go to the sauce station and make your sauce
And you are ready to go. Everything else that goes into the hot pot comes to your table via the conveyor system.
R&R has excellent green vegis choices. Lots of tofu, soy based choices too. Very good bouncy fish balls, calamari balls. Meatballs were meh. Rice noodles were less than meh. Too starchy and does not hold up in the broth.
The lotus roots were extra tasty. Taro slices were excellent. Seafood choices include scallops, clams, mussels, shrimps.
The desserts were ok. Though I like the variety of Asian (white tree fungus, sweetened taro) and western style (cake, cheesecake) among others.
The food is good. I wouldn’t say it’s great. But I would still come back because it was more than good enough. Service was excellent.
I didn’t take enough pictures, mostly because I was too distracted with enjoying the food...
