How things change. I was there today 8/27/2020. The view still great and the lobster roll was still very good. What changed? The place was not clean. We had to wipe off our own table. None of the employees, who appeared to be all teenagers and unsupervised, were NOT following CDC mandates . No hair nets, no masks, serving food and handling money, no hand washing. I could go on. These people were preparing food, cooking, and serviing food. We paid $75.00 for our lunch. The lobster roll was great. The chowder was watery and cold. The steamed clams and lobster for the shore dinner were cold. Like out of the fridge cold. Even the clam broth was cold. They forgot our soda so I went back and asked. The made me feel like a criminal. Can you prove you ordered it was the question. They added on an unexplained SVC charge of $3.00. The cashier, food server said she didn't know what is was just that it is added on to all bills. We won't go back. Instead we will go to Round Pond Lobster Co-OP 10 miles down the road in downtown Round Pond. See my review. We can get the same meal for half the price. The food is cooked right in front of you, is always hot, and is on a working harbor. You can even talk with the fishermen while they work. WE WON'T GO BACK TO SHAW'S WHARF.
Below is last years review.
Very clean. Great view of working harbor. Extremely fast service. Lobster roll was huge and very well prepared. Clam chowder was tasty but mostly broth and very few clams or potatoes. Definitely would get the lobster roll next time there but not the chowder. As fried foods went by the servings look enormous. Definitely...
Read moreMy wife and I were watching a show call "Maine Life" Saturday morning and they did a segment on Shaws Fish and Lobster in New Harbor Maine. This was an area we have never been to so decided to take a drive over.(About an hour away) We arrived and the restaurant was on a beautiful little seaside Harbor with fishing boats. (as we saw in the Maine Life show) There was a lady singing and playing guitar, a nice atmosphere. We decided to split some Mussels $12.75. we to the counter to order. The young lady working the counter asked us if we wanted the garlic butter/wine sign said $14.75, I said sure. She took my credit card and handed me the receipt that said $17.75 before tax. I went back up and said the sign says $14.75, she said "I didn't write the sign" in a snobby way.Thinking this was an odd response I asked for the $3.00 back, she said "I can't do that and I didn't write the sign". She said "I can cancel the order" I said sure then I'll reorder at the correct price. She said "I can't reorder because I did write the sign" ODD! I asked for a manager and she opened the cash draw and handed me $12 and some odd change, turn and waited on the next customer. I got back to the counter and said this is $5 short showing her what she gave me, She seemed very annoyed and short but opened the draw and handed me the $5 that was owed to me. I walked back to my wife and said let's leave. Unfortunately we never got to try the food but we will come back another time. We are retired and I was self employed in retail for many years and just think the young lady was lacking in people skills and should have gotten a manager to correct...
Read moreI stopped in here, glanced at the menu, and nearly laughed out loud. They’re charging $42 for a 6-ounce lobster roll (we made sure to ask the cashier the amount of lobster before we didn't order it) with nothing more than a bag of chips. Not fries, not even a token slaw... just a roll and a bag of potato chips.
Let’s put their “market price” scam in perspective. Six ounces is 0.375 pounds. At $42, that’s the equivalent of $112 per pound of lobster meat. For comparison: Filet mignon at a top steakhouse: usually $60–$70 per pound cooked. A round-trip flight from Portland, ME to New York City is often cheaper than two of their lobster rolls!!! It’s absurd. Lobster is delicious, yes, but it’s not some ultra-rare delicacy mined from the earth. Charging $42 for a bun and chips is the culinary equivalent of trying to sell sand at the beach. to be fair, the ambiance was beautiful and parking was plentiful (which is rare at these spots). Ocean breeze, sun on the water, classic Maine scenery... it’s exactly the kind of setting that makes a lobster roll taste even better. But here’s the problem: Maine is littered with gorgeous spots like this. There are dozens of shacks with equally stunning views where the food is priced like food, not fine jewelry.
In the end, I walked away. I’m glad I did. A lobster roll should feel like a summer indulgence, not like you just got shaken down by Wall Street bankers running a food truck. Find...
