What a treasure of a place! East Texas hospitality at its finest. Was on a get away from COVID trip and came across this Dairy Mart by pure chance. Could not believe the quality of the food, over the top portions, great taste and the staff was most exceptional. This place reminded me of small town eateries where most folks are locals and the atmosphere is just plain good. Now for the food... We choose the catfish and of course, the judge of all places that advertise a chicken fried steak... . It was recommended that we have the catfish and shrimp grilled (which I'm not particularly a fan of due to past experience) it was FANTASTIC and beyond all expectations. If any place would guarantee that they could season and grill catfish and shrimp like this I would never eat fried catfish again...it was unbelievably delicious. The coleslaw was definitely homemade and perfect in a cross of sweetness and so slight of vinegar. The hushpuppies are absolutely perfect in tast, crust and texture. Now for the chicken fried steak.... this CFS was one of the top three CFS's I have eaten so far in my 60yrs period. Being a native Texan born and raised in Austin as well as traveling throughout Texas I think I am a pretty good judge of the CFS. This steak was too big for me to finish which is feat on its own. The CFS was battered perfectly ( not thick and gooey). The batter stayed on the steak while gently cutting and eating. In other words, it did not separate to where you have a pile of batter and a plain steak. This shows that they know the art of CFSness. Second most important thing of a CFS is meat to batter ratio... the size of this steak was based on the actual steak and NOT enhanced by extra batter ( which should be a violation of CFS standards ...maybe even jail time for bait and switch...) The mashed potatoes were as homemade as you can get with a excellent gravey. All in all we will make this a habit to go back to in the near future. Don't hesitate to have a great meal and make wonderful memories of an experience that takes us older folks back to the good ol days of eating out as well as an example of days past for the younger folks. We are going to try the...
Read moreDairy mart is one of the best places in broaddus to eat... Actually it may well be the only place in broaddus to eat, but it has earned its spot. Not only do they offer good blue bell icecream, hence the name dairy mart, they also offer a variety of meals to satisfy everyone. My personal favorite is the bulldog burger, covered in mushrooms in swiss cheese, it makes anybodies mouth water. Also Mexican, seafood, full suppers, and lots of sandwhiches make up the menu. After the main course I highly reccomend ordering a milkshake, fun fact if they serve the flavor of icecream they serve it milkshake style too. The atmosphere of Dairy Mart is older, from the read and white paint scheme to the juke box in the corner, you get the feeling that dairy mart could be from another era.The black and white photos on the walls add to the nostalgia. Service is always good in this small town diner with a friendly staff always willing to chat. While both indoor and outdoor seating is available the Texas heat definitly makes indoors a better choice... At least normally, during the supper rush you may be lucky to get a seat at all. Prices are comparable to a lot of fast food places, perhaps a notch or to above, but I would definitley say that its...
Read more😡😡😡 We had went for the all u can eat catfish, with sides of fries and coleslaw, and a baked potato...we waited a good 30 min before receiving our order -We never received the baked potato. -Coleslaw was bland, and there was no sugar at the table to add to it. -out of the 5 strips of fried fish , 2 were cut way too thin to where all I was eating was overcooked cornmeal wafers. After eating all that I was able, I requested for more fish. That took another 20min until I received more. Then again, I received only 2 edible fish strips, and 3 overcooked thin cornmeal wafers.😡 -had to wait 15 min until I received more water. The fries were slightly overcooked as well.
Overall I was unpleased with my meal... It was asif the majority of the food given was recycled throwaway scraps. It has been 2years since I ate out anywhere, and was looking forward to enjoying this, and I believe Dairy Mart has gone to a new desperate low. What I mean to say is, why thin out your strips of fish to fulfill financial gain. This feels like I was taken advantage of, and I definitely don't see myself coming back.
*All other members that are this order with me weren't pleased and have their own complaints...
