The food here was amazing and incredibly low priced for the quality!!
The ONLY reason for not giving a 5 star review was because the service was pretty disappointing. It's likely because we were there on a Saturday night probably during the peak of their busiest time but it was still pretty disappointing.
It was just my husband and I and we were seated right away and our drinks were taken relatively quickly; however, we waited about 10 minutes for the server to take our orders and another ~30 for our food.
While we waited, I saw other tables get dinner rolls, not sure if this was on request or complimentary, we never got offered or asked if we wanted some.
We witnessed several plates of food get brought out to the wrong tables, touched by other patrons, returned, then brought out to the right table immediately afterwards. So the dishes definitely weren't remade, that made me a bit uncomfortable.
The redeeming part of all this was the food quality. Even though it took what felt like forever, it was warm, fresh, and absolutely delicious!!! The server didn't come by after someone else dropped off our food until they came to get the plates. That was a bit unfortunate, thankfully we didn't need refills or anything else.
For our two entrees, drinks and dessert, the total was less than $40. I was very impressed and even checked to make sure the server didn't accidentally leave something off.
Overall, a pleasant surprise; I've never been to The Bros. Houlagan so I can't compare the two, but this was definitely good food and we will be returning. The place looked clean, the decor didn't have dust on it, lighting was a little too much over each table which was a bit off-putting, but overall a good experience and hopefully there will be that 5th star...
Read moreI like the place. I really do. The service is fast, friendly and phenomenal. The waitstaff are like flies; you have to wave them away so you can eat. Some of the best service that you will find anywhere. They did an excellent job on the renovation of this old building, previously a liquor store. Probably a convenience store before that. Big windows, lots of light, comfortable booths and tables. Nicely decorated inside.
The plates are generously filled. The Chicken Fried Steak with cream gravy is the restaurant’s signature menu item. Now if you are used to and expecting a gigantic, thick over breaded southern style chicken fried steak you will be disappointed. Houligan’s CFS is thin and lightly breaded. Tremendously tender. Tasty, almost fall apart tender. It is hard to determine if is an extremely tenderized cube steak or a large thin ground beef patty. I had the CFS sandwich. The steak was big enough that I doubled it over to form a two-patty sandwich. I had it with slaw and green beans. Fresh crisp cabbage, carrot, creamy dressing with noticeable bite to it. A tingle on the tongue. Yeah, the green beans are from a can. The seasoning is unique. Not loaded with butter or bacon. I like ‘em. Check the pictures. My wife had the three-piece fish and chips with fries. Both the fish and fries looked to be factory, prepared food. Good sized fish slabs and a basket of fries. It was good, but it didn’t wow her.
A nice addition to Broken Arrow. A restaurant, that I would...
Read moreThis place should be called flavorless corner. Wasn't pleased with having to pay for rolls and butter when just about every other place that offers those, come complimentary. If I have to pay for rolls and butter then I would expect those rolls to be delicious but they were for from it. They tasted like they were sitting out all day and have hardened, the butter had a bitter taste and almost reminded me of butter thats been sitting on grandma's counter for 2 weeks. The service was awful and lacked customer service skills in general. I had ordered the Chicken Fried Steak dinner which was absolutely terrible. It was soft, rubbery and very underwhelming, it lacked seasoning so much so that I had to be very generous with adding my own salt and pepper. My Wife ordered a salad that came with Italian dressing. The dressing was sour and overwhelmed every other piece in the dish. We ordered a side of ranch and thought that might help and that ended up being very thick and very sour as well. Needless to say, I will never return. This place belongs in the corner of a retirement home, I would be very surprised if this place lasts...
