De Ayala Bakery — Restaurant in Brownsville

Probably the best bakery aka panaderia here in Brownsville. I grew up in the area so the bread was a household staple. You may think I am biased but I have converted many friends and acquaintances to this bakery. Even though I live 20 minutes away, I still make the drive across town and specially on those chilly day to pick up a fresh, just out of the oven marranito and a concha. There Dia de Reys rosca is something to write home about. Also one of the few places where you can find locally made Dia de los Muertos bread! Bread is delicious but sometimes EMPLOYEES over charge for the bread. BE CAREFUL, CHECK YOUR TOTAL AND DO THE MATH. Today, I bought $5.00 worth of bread and they charged me $ 8.69. I had to make the employee count again and sure enough she had charged more than 3 dollars extra. Sadly, the employees seemed to cover up for each other and make random excuses. Once you get their hours down, you’ll have the opportunity for fresh sweet bread at least twice a day, morning or mid/late afternoons. They’re always cleaning, being helpful, and fast at checkout.
