El Mesquite — Restaurant in Brownsville

For our first time here it was a very good experience. I found it on Google and read most reviews all good. But in my own opinion it is good BUT... the tortillas taste like reheated not freshly made meaning they will make the inside stuff example I ordered a flour tortilla w/chorizo, egg & potato and it was good except the tortilla it is as if it was sitting there and when you reheat it gets hard and gives you a ugly taste it kills the taste to the food. I guess I will order this in as a dish rather in a tortilla. The size is decent, but that was my only complaint. Now I really appreciate the fact that they have a buffet, but what makes it even better is that they have someone serving what you would like on your plate. I personally prefer that technique because many people are not very well-mannered and just make a mess. Or get more than what they will eat. And end up throwing away and a eaist of foods. In this case, keep the buffet bar nice and clean and more appetizing. If you want more, just go ask, and they will serve you. That is a plus. The place is very nice and cozy the staff is very friendly and my waitress was very nice. I will go back again, but this time, I will order the dish with the tortilla on the side. It is nice to see owners present in a restaurant because one would assume they are there to make sure that the customer is satisfied and provided the best treatment, unfortunately this is not the case. The owners are present in the cash register, most likely more concerned about someone stealing from them and they have a blatant disregard for customer satisfaction. Most owners are cordial with their customers and acknowledge when they come in and say “Thank You” when they leave, but not in this case, it is apparent that the owners forgot that they live and exist because the customer and if the customer is well received they will return. The owners here have an arrogant attitude and apparently believe they are above the customer and do not recognize their patronage and feel it is below them to converse with the people that pay their bills. We had breakfast here today. "El Mesquite" is an authentic Mexican restaurant that specializes in authentic Mexican breakfast and Lunch dishes only. Amazing service with an unbelievable value! They served us coffee with complimentary Mexican sweet breads while we selected our dishes. The waitress recommended the Breakfast buffet for only $7.99! (Attached photo is everything that comes with the buffet) Breakfast Buffet includes a round of flap-jacks, eggs, and coffee, with an assortment of other foods at the walkup buffet that you can replate yourself such as Menudo, barbacoa, beans, Mexican potatoes with chorizo and grilled onions, tamales, bacon, gorditas, chicharon en salsa verde... you get the idea!
