UNDER NEW OWNERSHIP! We will miss our old friends, the long-time owners of Main Moon, but change can be a good thing.
The pandemic air lock is gone. Dine in is back. The restaurant has been cleaned and scrubbed, and the new owners are quite nice.
The new menu has some higher prices, but we'd heard good things about the food, and we have to say the stories are true, with one minor disappointment.
We ordered kung bo beef from the dinner menu, roast pork rice noodles, an order of beef fried rice, an extra pork egg roll, and coconut chicken from the chef menu. An egg roll and fried rice is included with all items on the dinner menu, and most dinners run in the $10 range. The roast pork rice noodles cost $10.95. From the chef menu entrees cost more, in the $11 + range, and are served only with white rice. I got fried rice for $1 extra. The beef fried rice cost $6.95. I ordered the extra pork egg roll for myself for $1.60 more. Our whole order cost about $40.00.
My serving of coconut chicken was easily enough for two. Coupled with the roast pork rice noodles and the egg roll, I was stuffed, with another big meal for tomorrow.
The coconut chicken had a clear sauce, which surprised me. It was rich with coconut flavor, and just the right thickness to hold rice. It was sweet without being cloying. The battered chicken breast pieces still had a distinctive, rich chicken flavor, and some crispness. This was not mass-produced buffet coconut chicken. I was very happy with it.
The roasted pork rice noodles were amazing. I knew they'd be wonderful the second I took the lid off and got a whiff of steamy, porky goodness. It was full of a nice mix of well-sliced vegetables and pork, and you could taste the sear of the wok along with the richness of the pork. Heaven.
My husband's kung bo beef had actual heat, and had a nice balance between meat and vegetables. It wasn't mirepoix with a few specks of meat. It also wasn't cloyingly sweet. His beef fried rice had visible beef, carrots, peas, and onions. He loved everything.
My one disappointment was the egg roll. I am slightly sad. 😞 It was mainly wrapper, with a small bit of filling in the middle that I could barely taste. It was hot, and it was crispy, but it didn't compare to the rest of the meal. The egg roll wasn't a deal breaker, though.
The rest of the meal was very good, and we will be back. Ni hao to the new folks, and xie xie for a...
Read moreWell it's been over 16months since we ate here because the food was horrid, well tonight's was only slightly better. My wife's dumplings very much tasted like they were frozen. My tofu was more like beef jerky it was very chewy And tough. The fried rice was yellow with two or three slices of onion in it..I really was hoping for an improvement over the old owners but it was lacking severely. The only advantage they have is they are the only Chinese restaurant In town so not much competition , but I think I'd rather make the drive next time out of town to get more authentic tasting Chinese food. Pretty...
Read moreThis is the worst Chinese food in the area and there is no close 2nd. I'm floored when I see an excellent review for this place. The flavor of the food is just not good and I've tried a lot of their dishes. Some stir fry dishes are drowning in weirdly-thick sauce. The ONLY thing that is ok is the sweet and sour chicken (because it's deep fried), but the "fried rice" they give you is just steamed yellow rice with ZERO flavor and nothing in it, so I can't even get that. I really wanted this place to be good because it's the only Chinese place in Bucyrus, but I drive to Galion (or beyond) when I want decent...
