Decided to try the Silver Buffalo Saloon for lunch today in Buffalo Gap. The four of us were craving chicken fried steak and based on a review here we drove on out. It was roughly 1 pm with only one single diner and us. This should have been the first red flag on a Sunday afternoon. Three of us ordered the chicken fried steak, three got salads, I asked for green beans if they were fresh not canned. One of us got a loaded baked potato and one got Mac n cheese, he said it was great and got mashed potatoes that he asked for cheese to be added and mixed in. Waitress arrived eventually with the three salads and not five minutes later arrived with a chicken fried chicken, two chicken fried steaks, the baked potato for one chicken fried steak and creamed corn was served with the chicken fried chicken. The other chicken fried steak was served with Mac n cheese and mashed potatoes with a side of bleu cheese dressing?!?!? I was served canned grean beans. I asked where my steak was she's like oh you ordered one too? I'll get that right out. We questioned the cheese for the mashed potatoes so she brought shredded cheese that was so dry it was crunchy. It did not mix well with the mashed potatoes. While I waited for my cfs I watched everyone else eat or try to. One of the cfs had so much gristle she could only chew thru half of it. One was OK but had some gristle. My steak arrived as everyone was finishing and I guess they rushed it because it was burned, couldn't taste the steak for the burned taste, the edges just crumbled hard. Maybe the grease was burned too, hard to tell. No one ate all their entrees. I tried some of the OK cfs and it was much better than mine even with some gristle. After a few bites I took mine to go for my dogs as did everyone else. We will not be back. Four of us four entrees with $1 up charges for side salads and $1 upcharge for loaded baked potato and four...
Read moreSilver Buffalo Saloon is worth the short drive from Abilene. Food is made fresh and overall was pretty flavorful. The Buffalo chips are loaded with a ton of cheese and what felt like an entire heard of pigs worth of bacon. The potatoes were thin and crispy and not thick and mushy like most places. The queso appitizer, while thick was a tad bland it could have used some seasonings or even some pico, overall it was pretty average queso. For entrees, we had a smothered chicken and a crispy chicken sandwhich. The smotherd chicken was cooked perfectly with great grill marks and smothered with queso and pico. It was extremely juicy and seasoned well. For side, we went with the mac and cheese and jalapeño cream corn. The mac and cheese was again average and pretty bland needed something to make it stand out seasoning or some cheddar or gouda melted on top or even some pepper. But the star of the sides is the jalapeño cream corn it had so much flavor and was extremely delicious. It definitely overshadowed the mac n cheese. Our 2nd entree was the crispy chicken sandwhich, and like the smothered chicken, it was cooked perfectly and was overflowing with delicious juicy flavor, not over or under cook at all just perfect. The bun was made fresh in house according to the waitress, and you could tell. The onion rings we upgraded to were worth the extra dollar and might be the best in Abilene it would be a toss-up between here and Larry's Better Burgers on who has the best in Abilene. Service was excellent food came out got when it was ready and water glasses were kept full. All in all a great experience. We did have to take a star off for a few items. There is 50 cent charges for the salsa with the Buffalo chips and a 50 cent charge for ranch with the sandwhich, even though we didn't ask for either. Additionally there was a charge for credit card usage...
Read moreIt was our first girls' lunch at the Silver Buffalo Saloon, and we really had a great time. Going in, I missed the sign on the door, but my girlfriends told me about it, stating that the service isn't gonna be fast but good and take time to smell the roses, and truly that about summed things up. Our server, Rosa, was cool and attentive. We were chilling, laughing, and talking when the food actually came out much faster than we expected.
I asked about the chicken pot pie I saw on Facebook, and Rosa checked, and they had some. It was delicious, the crust was perfect and slightly flaky, and perfectly browned, and the filling was hearty and the epitome of comfort food because I felt fat and happy. 😆 I just rubbed my stomach and licked my lips thinking about it. Ummm 😋 the jalapeños corn and green beans were good, too. I hesitated on the green beans because so often they're not cooked with any soul when I eat out, but Rosa reassured me they're her favorite. And yes, they're now one of mine too because they were delicious with real bacon, and I think onions, garlic, and whatever seasonings they were delicious.
My friends said they enjoyed their chicken fried chicken and asada fries, too. Their dishes looked good, but I can only speak personally on my dish. When I told a friend we were going, she highly recommended her favorite dish, the smothered chicken. Taste varies for all of us, but good eating is simply good eating.
Oh, I almost forgot the delicious dessert, the banana pudding pie. I think she called it that, with the Chessmen cookies and everything. It was a dessert that dreams are made of and a nice way to end a...
