A lady friend and I met for lunch at The Gap Cafe. The cafe is a quaint comfortable space and the staff is extremely friendly. We ordered the Steak Sandwich, Pomme Frites, bottled soda à la carte and dessert. The steak sandwich, a "Thinly sliced grilled steak, blue cheese crumbles, lettuce, tomato, topped with blue cheese dressing on a homemade baguette" that was delicious but extremely small for the price. The fries were described as "French fries the way they are supposed to be – twice fried. And, ours are tossed with fried jalapeño chips (because we’re in Texas)." These were a disappointment. Honestly they were small and tasted like any other fry. For our drinks, she ordered a Coke and I ordered a Diet Coke. We were told they were bottled but was not aware that they were the traditional Coke glass containers. My friend's Coke was 12oz and my Diet Coke was only 8 oz. for the same price. For dessert we ordered a pastry and cookie which were both amazing! Service was friendly but the kitchen was slow considering there was only 4/5 customers in the Cafe. Bottom line, it was somewhat of a discouraging visit. Will I eat at this restaurant again ......

This place was less than impressive. We had eaten at Perini's Steakhouse the prior night, so we thought we would give this a try.

Our eggs weren't cooked to order. The cowboy potatoes were squishy...even though we ordered them crispy. The bacon was very similar. On the plate was 1 slice of small sourdough toast.

Thougt this was over priced for what was served. I agree with a previous post...I could have gone to Deny's and had a much better experience.

Ordered a diet coke. I was told it came in a bottle and yes it did! It was an 8 ounce bottle. 8 ounces for $2.00. This place could go get bottles at a $1.00 a piece and sell them for $3.00.

Look at my receipt and then the pricing. The bottle of diet coke (8 ounces) was priced at $2.00 on the menu. On my receipt it was $2.75. Yes, I know it is only .75 cents, but I am finding mistakes like this more frequently and kind of tired of being charged...

We had lunch at The Gap today! Chicken fried steak, gravy, and jalapeno pomme frites! Amazing. For dessert we had a lemonade cupcakes with strawberry buttercream frosting with chunks of fresh stawberries! Melt-in-your- DELICIOUS! We bought pastries, cookies, and biscuits to bring home. Just ate an "everything bagel" biscuit with cream cheese filling! Beyond bounds deliciousness! Had a few bites of the jalapeno poppers biscuit 😋😋🥰! We've had the cookies before but bought one of each: chocolate chip, cowboy cookie, and snickerdoodle! If you haven't had one yet...get there! No other cookies compare! We also bought a pastry that we haven't tried yet..it is a strawberry cinnamon roll with strawberry buttercream frosting with fresh stawberry pieces on top...how bad can it be! ...

I was visiting friends in Abilene just north of here. I had already had chicken fried steak in Abilene that was delicious and wanted some more, so we drove to this place on a Monday I think. Very quaint, picturesque place inside and out. Very small place. Excellent food, excellent prices, and coffee was great. I actually bought the mug in the photo. This place is part of Perini Ranch, and the meat is literally from right down the road. They also run an upscale steakhouse nearby. Worth a trip if you're ever in Abilene. There is also an historic town here (closed on Sunday and Monday) that I am sure is worth visiting. Plus you'll drive by a gas station/grocery store that looks to be straight out of an early 20th century movie.
