Hunan West — Restaurant in Burke

Extremely disappointed by the service and complete lack of professionalism at Hunan West. I have ordered from here before but will NOT be returning.

After waiting for 20 minutes for pick up (we were told 10 mins and when we arrived 10 minutes later we ended up sitting around for 20 minutes), I got home and realized that my order was completely wrong. I ordered vegetarian general tso's chicken (i.e. NOT chicken) with broccoli and little to no spice. I received actual chicken with a ton of peppers and no broccoli. I'm a vegetarian, so needless to say this was not something I could just suck up and eat.

When I called I received no proposal for a solution, was told a "manager" was going to contact me, and couldn't get a refund over the phone. 30 minutes later (and 2 phone calls later) no one had called me back and I ended up having to go back to the restaurant.

As is standard operating procedure in most restaurants, I expected that portion of my meal to be comped and to get a replacement general tso chicken. I didn't think that was a lot to ask considering how much trouble I had to go to---calling multiple times, being given meat as a vegetarian, and eventually having to go in there. The lady at the front kept calling the manager and speaking in another language and then telling me they could only make me something or refund me. I asked to speak to the manager on the phone and he was inflexible and very unprofessional. I told him that my family had ordered from him many times in the past and that this experience was so disappointing I didn't think I would order from them again. I asked him if the $12 was worth losing a family of customers and he told me I "don't have to come back again." He was overall quite rude and was just shocked at his lack of business acumen. Finally, I just settled for the refund--which took at least 3-4 minutes because the lady once again started talking on the phone with the manager while I was standing there waiting for a refund.

Terrible service, mediocre food (if you get the right order), and a money-grubbing jackwagon of an owner. Do yourself a favor and...

We love Hunan West. They are one of our go to Chinese food restaurants. Not only is the food absolutely wonderful so is there honesty and customer service. I accidently left a very large tip online and they realized it was not normal and they corrected the error themselves, and told me of the mistake, showed me that they fixed it. I was so happy! Many could have just taken this tip and ran especially during this COVID time and businesses struggling. THANK YOU! We had a large order that day, and we expected it to be about an hour for delivery, they were at our door within 30 minutes, this may not always be the case when indoor dining returns, but a pleasant surprise. Our favorites- Mongolian Beef, Sesame Beef/Chicken and for those of you who are familiar with Salt and Pepper Chicken wings- OMG- you must try their Salt and Pepper Boneless Chicken. The only place outside of California I have found anything similar and better because of being boneless. I love their fried rice packed with goodness. The hot sweet and sour cabbage, lettuce wraps, green beans in ginger sauce are really good. These under the appetizers, but actually can make a meal. Their Thai selection is also wonderful. The drunken noodles, Thai Basil Fried rice and Tom Kha Gai soup are yummy. We have tried many of their dishes, to many to list, but we have never been disappointed, and you won't be either. Horrible Horrible Horrible! Chicken overcooked, dry and tasted funny. Told waiter and he just said he'd tell kitchen. That was it. No apology or can I bring you something else. Spoke with the manager and all she did was give us a $5.00 coupon off our order. I told her that I did not think that was enough as the chicken was the main part of my meal. I ate the rice and the nuts as I was hungry and the waiter did not offer to replace my meal and did not really care or come back to check on us. The manager mentioned I ate a portion of my meal. I ate the side things as the chicken was absolutely horrible. I ordered a chicken dish and expected to be able to eat chicken. If I wanted just rice, sauce and nuts, I would have ordered just that.and not have paid $16 for a chicken dish.that I could not eat the chicken.
