The setting was nice but everything else fell way short. We made reservations for 830pm based on good reviews and the menu variety depicted on their Google listing. They never mentioned when we called they only had a buffet available that day and we traveled 40 minutes to get there then waited an hour until our reservation time. They seated us, asked us for our drink orders then told us it was buffet only. We were already there and it was late so we went with it. I got a coke and she brought it warm in a can with a glass of ice...not what I expected from a regular, nicer restaurant.
The food was BBQ with chicken, brisket and sausage and then they had baked beans, cream of corn, potato salad, cornbread and peach cobbler for dessert. The food was ok. Nothing special but not bad either.
We finished eating and my wife went to pay. It took her 10 minutes to pay because she was obviously arguing about something. Turns out the basic buffet cost us $150 for 4 people with one coke and 3 waters. The waters were supposed to have lemon in them but they put limes instead.
The restaurant is supposed to be about the setting and view and since we were there at sunset you'd think it would be nice. Nope! They had all the blinds halfway down so you couldn't see anything. Nobody ever came back to check on drinks etc. When they seated us there were 4 tables cleaned and unoccupied. They let us sit for over an hour waiting on a table despite also being on the wait list for an earlier table.
However, that's not the worst. While waiting for our table we decided to get a few beers and some wine. The lady serving was the only one behind the counter so she was serving drinks, taking cash and not washing her hands. No big deal just serving drinks, right? Well, that's until you see her picking up limes and handing them to the people in front of us as if they were going to put them into their pockets for later use. She didn't pour their drinks into a glass then add the limes, she literally just picked them up with her hand and handed them over. One of the beers we got was a Blue Moon and she did the same thing with the orange.
The setting outside and grounds seemed nice but the management and total lack of detail and service were horrible. We won't go back.
By the way, we had just paid $89 with tax for all four of us for lunch at Salt Lick BBQ for lunch...
Read moreGrabbed appetizers and some wine at Overlook with a friend and we were not disappointed. It's a beautiful setting, the day was a little cool, but with the sun out, lunch on the deck was just what we needed.
I've been to the Overlook several times and have always enjoyed the food and service. This visit, we tried the boudin egg rolls, cheese curds, and the brussel sprouts.
I can't say enough about the crispy brussel sprouts. The honey sriracha sauce made this dish! I feel like I'm a brussel sprout connoisseur, we try them at every restaurant that has them. So many ways to make them, and the overlook has certainly found a delicious version - so good!
The cheese curds are cheese curds. Nothing special about them, and as long as they are served warm, they are good. The boudin egg rolls were crispy and had great flavor.
Our server, a tall older gentleman, was phenomenal. I asked his name, wanted to remember his name, and here I sit unable to recall it, but what I do know is that he was very attentive, friendly and engaging, and took great care of us.
Highly recommend...
Read moreSpectacular! The service was friendly and we really enjoyed everyone. The view is spectacular and sitting inside or outside is an absolute delight! The food was outstanding! We had queso as an appetizer, which was wonderful and I had a ruben with onion rings which were perhaps the best I've had. Onion rings were breaded abd fried beautifully and were very delicious. The Ruben was one of the best I have had, nicely toasted with great quality ingredients and perfectly balanced sauce and really delicious kraft. I would highly recommend you check them out! The grounds are stunning too! You can enjoy camping nearby, cozy up in a cabin, or just stop by for dinner! You'll be glad you dropped in, no matter how you...
