There are dives that are absolutely great, then there are just DIVES. Leave your heels at home ladies, it’s not that type of place. The parking lot is a gravel lot, dress as you should to a dive. The place is decorated in your classic American beer mirrors on the wall, with the original barn board walls. The seating is as comfortable as sitting is oak church pews. There are some books stacked to keep the bar noise down from the dining room, but this maybe the most cultural part of the whole place. The waitress took forever to come over as she addressed us several times, be right there... two minute.... be right back....your server will be with you. Ah, you showed up and read the specials after we read the menu front to back 6 times. I couldn’t imagine what it would be like if you had 50% of your tables occupied. First tip to the waitress, don’t start arguing over a petty salad. It’s $7, I’ll pay for it. Stop insisting on the house salad. The premier steak was swimming in some type of sauce, with as much dried parsley covering the plate to be another vegetable option. Okay, they washed the steak off, but then covered it entirely with dried parsley again. Medium rare is defined as the steak just crossed the road and walked thru the kitchen to my table. I love my steaks, but it was still chilled. That’s too rare for me. By this point, I dove into my baked potatoe. Which I question the last decade it was prepared in. Similar to the great turkey dinner on national lampoon Christmas vacation, it gave a good second runner up to the Griswalds bird. If it wasn’t for the sour cream, on yes I’ll have a dusting of starch and a bushel of dried parsley. The misses had a chicken something or other that resembled chicken from the can with imitation seafood meat. The vegetables we described as being cooked al dente.... wait, no. They were raw, but not al dente to remove the raw flavor. Don’t waste your money and don’t waste your intelligence addressing the owner with concerns about...
Read moreWell when my friend and I got there the waitress asked what she could get us to drink. I asked for a strawberry daiquiri but they didn’t have the ingredients for it. I then asked for a pina coloda they didn’t have that either. So I asked for a glass of white Zinfandel and they didn’t have that either. I ended up ordering a glass of white wine. Before I was finished with my appetizer she brought out our dinners. I had a steak salad and I asked for cucumbers and they didn’t have them either. I wanted my steak well done it came rare blood everywhere. Our reservation was for 7:30 my friend and I were enjoying each others company and before we were done eating she gave us our check. We were going to have another cocktail and clearly they were closing down right in front of us!! I’ll never ever go there again. I’ve never felt so pushed out of a restaurant before. It’s not like it was 11pm it was 9 o’clock at night. So they lost our business from this point on and now it’ll always be the lookout house for my friends and I. What a waste of $60 !! When my friend asked me to leave right after they didn’t have the drink I wanted we should’ve left. But hence goes the saying live and learn ! We learned the hard way. I’d suggest to anyone if you’re planning on going out to eat, pass up the Meating House and go to the Lookout house instead !! They’ve always had everything that I wanted and the arrive at the lookout house is excellent as is their food. I definitely could get a daiquiri there or a Luna coloda. And they no doubt have cucumbers and every cocktail that I could have ordered. What a waste of time and money. Not have I ever been kicked out of the Lookout house again it wasn’t even ten o’clock it was nine and they wanted us...
Read moreUnbiased review from a Berwick resident- My wife found the ad from a local magazine and when I looked at the reviews was cautious about making a reservation. Most were very good but a few were not so. MY EXPERIENCE: Arrived at 6P Saturday evening. Waited about 3 minutes for a waitress. Drinks at the table with-in 3 minutes. Appetizers came out with-in 15 minutes (lamb lollipops and shrimp), excellent by the way. Then the salad within another 15 minutes and it was excellent as well. Then nice hot rolls came out. The waitress was awesome, always ensured we were taken care of. We did wait about 20- 30 minutes for our main course after all the courses- but it was WELL worth the wait- my wife and I frequent restaurants a lot and this may be the best meal we have had in 6 months. Price, there were items from$15-36, for the specialty items that we had it was well worth it. Atmosphere/Decor- NOT outdated at all, sort of country, very clean, mood lighting, relaxing dinner music. Clean. Sat next to a fireplace which was nice because it was dreary and raining out. The table layout wasn't any different than Main street, Apple-bee's or the crackle-barrel. I am 6'2" and sat a smaller table for 2 for 2 hours and there as no problem. We are a couple in our late 50's and my wife commented on the way home how nice it was to spend 2 hours talking during a pleasant and delicious "dinner experience". I believe some of the reviews are based on typical restaurant experiences today which are go in, get your food rather quickly, and when your finished leave. Will...
