WAY overpriced, WAY overrated and TOTALLY outdated. Looking for a decent "upper class" kind of dining experience? the Uptown Cafe, or Casagranda's... or even drive to Anaconda and go to Barclay II supper club, but trust me, don't go here...
In just about every town, there is that 1 restaurant that some locals really love, but nobody understands why (even most of the locals that don't like it)... this is that place in Butte.
To say that it's horrible would be incorrect, but to say that it is "uniqe", "special", or "worth visiting" would be equally incorrect... this is where Butte's snobs go to pretend they know fine dining (it's standard, bland American fare)... you'll get better food at a small diner, or even many chain places.
If you're looking for a good local place I'd suggest the Hanging 5, it's NOT fancy, it doesn't pretend to be, the food is also mostly traditional American fare as well with some good specials that change from day to day. Menu items are mostly pretty standard, the food is cooked perfectly, served up fresh and hot, plus the atmosphere is much nicer and more relaxed... not to mention you'll pay less than 1/3 of what Lydia's charges!
If you want a little fancy but with very good food try Cassandra's, or if you want a low key good steak house try Rib & Chop, if you want fancy but VERY good Italian, try LA Casa Toscana (pricy, vut worth it)... so many other good options, don't settle for boring, bland and expensive.
UPDATE: Went back for Mother's day brunch (not my choice), and still just as craptastic, EXCEPT add in the horrible layout of the place for a buffet and you have CHAOS! Not to mention all the old boomer women wearing perfume so strong you cannot taste your already bland food! Ick!
I will say however that the staff are great, and do good at managing the chaos that is mostly due to the buffet location (specifically where its at within the building) and impatient patrons... it'd be one star without the...

I feel this restaurant is caught in a time capsule, aged and deteriorating over time and the owner neglected to update the place as needed. Everyone seemed happy and proud to work here. The chairs and couches in the bar immediately caught my eye and need to be thrown out. I felt like I was sitting in bacteria the entire dining experience (see photos). The server we had was young and trying, however fell short on the experience as if she lacked training. The sweet potato red onion baby food mush, raviolis, and giant plate of spaghetti + ice cream served in addition to the meals here were not desirable and very much shined poorly on the management decisions here as well as the kitchen staff. I'm sure you are losing money! The food was expensive and barely edible. The French fries were called twigs by my friends ten year old son. From the start it looked too dark in the bar and it's probably due to the facilities needing a serious cleaning. The idea of the nostalgia and history here was fun, but the cleanliness and food quality factors fell terribly short. This place needs a Gordon Ramsay type to fix it. I am sure there is more that a fair share of food leaving in to go boxes due to the abundance of lack luster accoucheaments served with each meal. BTW for the price of dinner, we could have enjoyed some fresh french bread, not stale bread cigar like bread sticks. Really, all in all, this place is a disaster and needs significant improvement. Maybe it was an off night? I was just visiting and in the future will try to persuade everyone in my party to go elsewhere if I have any say. Please fix the cleanliness and food preparation and quality here before people start...
Read moreCame from the west coast, touring to South Dakota. On our way back we stopped by Lydia’s for dinner. We choose this restaurant because my name is Lydia and the parking lot was relatively full, which usually is a tell-tale sign of a local favorite. We were a little apprehensive about the prices, so I read the reviews. Firstly, the (prior) review about the interior was totally wrong. This restaurant screams supper club, the only thing missing was the cigar smoke. I appreciated the decor even though (some what worn) was warm and inviting. What the hostess lacked, our server Sarah TOTALLY made up for. We were seated immediately and Sarah explained that we needed was to pick our entree. She explained that ALL the sides on the first page came with our meal, she just needed our salad dressing choice. I choose the blue cheese, which was slammed by a prior reviewer... it was runny, BUT delicious, obviously home made and I highly recommend it. The thousand island dressing along with all the other dressings (tarter, cocktail sauce, etc) was home made. As the restaurant explains, these sides are served in the age old tradition and all are home made and delicious. The veal was delicious and the surf and turf cooked exactly to order. Soooo, yes it was pricy but ... If you are looking for the typical steak dinner, served in the typical atmosphere by a unfriendly wait staff, this place is NOT for you. BUT, if you want a steak cooked perfectly medium rare, deep fried deliciously breaded jumbo shrimp cooked to just right and yummy veal, not to mention old fashioned, home made sides, this is the place IS the place for you! For my $28 plus tip, it was worth it! So...
