Really cute place to eat. Open feel, dark wood with the bright white walls for contrast makes it feel open and inviting! Windmill Family Restaurant was not super busy, but it was about 9:30-10am on a Monday morning. So, it was easy to hear my friend talking.
The staff was really friendly and tentative. We had Miss Doris as our server, She is excellent! Miss Doris has a wonderful, beautiful, and friendly smile every time she comes to your table! Food came out fast. We both got the one special the Windmill omlette. Which consists of a 3 egg omelet with hashbrowns and american cheese, then comes with toast w/butter (I got Wheat). Friend got White toast... ( You can pick Rye). Eggs were a little overcooked, but that could just be the heat lamp, not the Chef or Cook!!!! SO just keep that in mind if ordering eggs, sometimes!
Now, I did give the food a 4-stars and here are my reasons. I just wish going to a family like a restaurant like this or diner-style just had flavor... I mean, I have gone to so many diners. BUT it all tastes the EXACT same... LIFELESS AND BORING... I guess that is why I go, but I kind of want to be wowed... (I have once)
Like the Chefs/Cooks have a passion, and it is just wasted by repeat BORING insanity! And I am not asking the chefs and cooks to get a major EGO either or the OWNERS OR MANAGERS!! LISTEN TO EVERYONE.. Firstly, the REVIEWS GOOD AND BAD, The Patrons, the staff, The kitchen staff even down to the bus and dishwasher employees! Heck, they may have the best-selling menu idea!!! CHANGE IS GOOD, with keeping tradition!
I am not saying reinvent the wheel... And I am not saying ignore your wonderful trucker and elderly patrons either and go hog ham wild... Or that you need a 5-michelin star. (I mean, if you did, that would be amazing sauce! Lol)
But, please get rid of American cheese.. đ just oil and by product... GROSS! Put REAL CHEDDAR IN THE WINDMILL OMELET HECK YOU ALL ARE SURROUNDED BY AMISH AND NON-AMISH DAIRY FARMERS! USE REAL CHEESE!!! NOT FAKE!!!! PLEASE USE SPICES AND WHEN I MEAN SPICES I MEAN GARLIC, BLACK PEPPER, OR WHITE PEPPER, ONION POWDER AND PARSLEY IN YOUR OMLETES Don't need "Gerty" falling over in her chair when you say spices lol!
But it's food! Food is amazing and life! It's passion, it's fun, about sharing and family! Then, watch the Windmill Family Restaurant grow and become a landmark once again!
Sorry if this review is long... And sorry, it sounds persnickity... But I see/feel the love and care in that building and the people! I just would love to see it in food! Sorry, I love food! (You know 4'10-"Hobbit") Always up for a second dinner or breakfast...đđ€Łđ)
P.S. Cute Gift Shop that is taken over by TY BEANY BABY PLUSHIE/"SQUISHMELLOW" Like plushies ... Didn't know they were a thing... BUT IF YOU ARE LOOKING, THEY HAVE THEM!!! ALOT TOO!!! But there is an ADORABLE PUNNY FARM TABLE SAYING AND GIFTS TO BUY...
Read moreSo the first time I went hereâoh my gosh! I was amazed at this host. I came about a month ago with my five grand kids. We sat at the counter, and the young woman, who I believe said her name was Grace, introduced herself. We told her we were ordering ice cream, and she got right to it.
Mind you, it was around 6 p.m. and the place was pretty busy. She took our orders, got our drinks, and went straight to work on the ice cream. We ordered everything from sundaes and soft serve to milkshakes. Meanwhile, she was also seating people, working the register, and making our ice cream all at once.
The phone started ringing, and she stepped out, picked it up, and took a takeout orderâall while making a sundae at the same time. My grand kids got impatient after just a couple of minutes, but she immediately handled it by giving them crayons and refilling their drinks. Within about 8 minutes, she had all of our orders out.
On top of that, she was also handling people at the outside ice cream window. Iâve worked in this business before, and let me tell youâitâs stressful and hard work. Yet somehow, she stayed calm, collected, and kept everyone happy. She seemed pretty young too, but let me just say: she is the definition of hardworking.
I came back again with my husband, and unfortunately, our experience wasnât the same. Our server was clearly intoxicatedâshe smelled strongly of alcohol and was very slow. The food was still good, but that kind of behavior should never be allowed.
The Windmill can be a hit or a miss, and it really shouldnât be that way. Sorry for the long review, but it...
Read moreGood morning I had to write this review I hope the staff fixes the issue so they don't lose no more customers .We were there yesterday March 3 Sunday for lunch. I picked this place for me and my girlfriend's because the last experience was about 2 years ago I ordered this platter pork sauerkraut and mashed potatoes were the best back then. Anyways me and my cousin ordered the same thing the pork sauerkraut and mashed potatoes the waitress brought our platters out mine look like half of a portion of mashed potato that looked like instant mashed potatoes It was not the same there was hardly any pork on my plate It was all sauerkraut and the sauerkraut tasted like somebody put sugar in The sauerkraut I should have said something to the waitresses as well but I didn't I was just hungry and tired. My cousin said something to the waitress lisa and the waitress said that she would give her a discount well it was only a dollar My cousin was very disappointed The food did not taste right I don't know what happen to the cookđ„șđ they have but if you want good business you got to serve the food better portionsđ And stop putting sugar in the sauerkraut and make real mashed potatoes. I'll pray for you all that things get changed I saw the reviews recently after I got home and this morning looking at them You can tell something is going on save your restaurant better portions and real...
