Excellent! Raíces shows boricua taste even to the uniforms used by the staff. The walls are painted with estampas (paintings of life before the the 1950's in rural PR), dishes are also some of what I saw from my grandparents. The ambiance is right and the food is on par with it. The mofongo was good and its showcased in their menu as one of their specialties.
What was missing from the menu was what I consider a staple of Puerto Rican food, arroz con gandules (rice with green peas). On the sweet side there was the classic flan. Try Dulzura Típica for a new combination of flavors. I really liked it.
Arroz con gandules, pernil (roasted pork), morcillas (blood sausages), tembleque and arroz con dulce are offered during Christmas. Just ask.
The four star rating is because the ceiling needs some repairs as the paint is peeling in some places.
If you are in the island, come visit for the food and ambiance. If you are from the island, come visit for the cultural value. Either way, you won't regret it.
