When you spend $60.00 on a meal for 2 you should get at least a decent meal. You should NOT get a meal you didn't like because as the paying customer you were unable to speak Spanish to ask any questions about the menu in Caledonia MN USA. You should not have to argue & make a scene because you have an item on the bill you didn't order & the waiter doesn't speak enough English to do anything but keep pointing at the carryout & then the bill. You should not have to be embarrassed & have a drawn out scene made because you wanted to get a carryout bill corrected & again the waiter keeps pointing at the carryout and then the bill because HE DOESN'T SPEAK ENGLISH & doesn't understand we didn't order the item & don't want the item. You should not have further frustration because the manager doesn't speak English much better than the employees & now the scene has escalated further. Ironically the question I had about the dish before ordering it would have prevented any problems BUT the waiter didn't have any ability to answer questions in English, in fact nobody on site did. Worst dining experience EVER. How can this be remotely related to the Hacienda restaurant in Holmen which had great food & service? This hole in Caledonia was such a bad experience we may never go back to the Hacienda for fear the employees from Caledonia may fill in at Holmen and ruin another dinner. Seriously i gotta ask, who burns jalapeño poppers? Most every bar in the midwest serves (frozen bags) jalapeño poppers & we have never gotten a basket of burnt, dry & leathery poppers until Sol agave. Advise eat at the Farm House which is fantastic food & open for LUNCH. If you're wanting a dinner KEEP DRIVING, still no good place for dinner in all...
Read moreWe made a special trip based on recommendations and we were not disappointed with the food. Service was quick and the food came out surprisingly fast for how crowded it was. The street corn was the bomb! As far as atmosphere, there isn't much a giant bar on one side and a giant room with tables on the other side. Staff was friendly and seemed happy to be there. Buyer beware! This is why I give it a 3 stars: the menu does not list prices for drinks, but I ordered a mojito in a pint glass not even thinking about the price. When the bill came the mojito was 18 bucks!! That is the price of a drink in Minneapolis of Chicago not Caledonia!! I was floored and tried to ask if it was a mischarge but there was a language barrier - we just accepted it and left. Tables around us were getting big margaritas with refills so I wonder how much those were. If we go again for good food, I will...
Read moreFirst, this is a gem in a very unlikely place! Why Mexican food in a German/ Norwegian farm community? I live in Texas, so I was a bit suspicious as to the real taste of Mexico. My suspicions were unfounded as the flavors were of the vibrant Mexican food that I know! It was not full of fat and cheese, rather the sauces had incredible flavor. I had the Chile Colorado which was advertised as spicy (wish I took a photo), yet the spice was beautifully subdued and fragrant. My mother had the Enchiladas Mexicanas, and really enjoyed the flavors and tenderness of the meat. It was a Sunday night so the number of patrons trickled in. I DO hope that more people will discover this place. Friendly atmosphere as well. Portions are huge, plan...
