Don't miss it -- we Florida-Keys people expect top-end hotels - here we found it in our Minnesota trip two weeks ago. --- The Historic Caledonia Inn is an elegant hotel experience straight out of 19th century small town Minnesota. Modernized in necessary details, it has the amenities of a first class hotel (minus a restaurant/bar --- to keep its 1885 theme). Although the original over-door transoms allow some ambient light into the rooms, that was not a bother. Slept like a log in this super-quiet setting. Fast wifi, good a/c, stiff mattresses, the works. Staff will give you a tour through the fascinating historical items and photos - and they don't expect a tip for that. So I happily refrained. As for food and beverage, we found the three food/restaurant/bar resources within easy walking distance in the same block on Main Street very good. The Rusty Rooster breakfast cafe right next door is excellent, and had all the gluten-free, non-GMO, vegan menu items nut-case Florida Keys people demand. My son took some drone stills of the inn and its Main Street setting (see one below), and at night, the feel gives you the visuals right out of an Edward Hopper painting. Richard Warner -...
Read moreMy Brother, my Mother and myself had stayed for one night at the Inn on Friday, March 24, 2023. We were visiting the International Owl Center the following day. Upon arrival that Friday, we were generously greeted and given a tour by Betsy. The Inn was amazing. Built over 150 years ago! I figured there would be creaky floors and odd feeling to it. To our surprise, it was just an "at home" feeling. Accomodations were the same, you just felt like you were "at home"...comfortable, relaxed and easy. " In case you forgot something by the way, just call I'm a mile down the road!" that is what Betsy said as she departed from the Inn. There was no need to call her though. We had everything we needed, " at home ". The rates were great, it was quiet and it will definitely be our place to stay each time we visit the area. I suggest you...
Read moreMost of the rooms are on the second floor with no elevator. There are no keys. Visitors enter a code into the electronic lock on the front door and on the individual rooms. The shower had a huge showerhead. The location was excellent. Caledonia Inn is next door to the Wired Rooster coffee shop and a short walk to Elsie's restaurant. The hotel is right in the middle of downtown Caledonia.. I had the Grant Room. President Grant once ate at the hotel restaurant now long gone. The Inn has the same owner as Betsy's B&B. Depending on availability, it may be possible to swap for a room at the B&B if you change your mind. I had a chance to look around at some of the...
