Boll Weevil Ramona — Restaurant in California

The staff must get paid or told to leave positive reviews here because the reviews i just read are polar opposite from our experience 🙁.

I have always loved going to the Bollweevils down in Lakeside and I have been meaning to take my kids and husband. So when we moved I was excited to see one of the restaurants up here in Ramona, Ca and decide to go for lunch one day. We walk in and are told to sit where we like. Which is fine, we find a booth and sit. I look up on the wall and notice a sign basically stating that if you do anything to catch the attention of the waitresses they have the right to add $10 to your meal. ..not exactly what a customer wants to see/read when they decide to try out your restaurant...but I decided to overlook this strange and unwelcoming sign and try to have a good time with my kids and husband anyway.

The place didn't have a very welcoming atmosphere..it was almost too quiet in the smallish restaurant. The whole place stunk really bad of cleaning products and the bathrooms were worse. We have learned thanks to this location, that strong cleaning products and the smell of food cooking creates this really gross stench that makes it difficult to eat. The menus were small and didn't have much to them. We ordered our food and I asked if they could leave out the tomatoes in my cheeseburger. The server made a face and walked away. When she returned with our food my burger was totally plain and had nothing to it at all..no cheese..nothing. Our check was almost $40, for three burgers that were tiny and had almost nothing to it and a corn dog?? In a place that stunk so bad it was making my husband sick? Of course I couldn't help but think of that foreboding sign I read and the attitude we got from our server when we ordered our food. Very disappointed but of course we stayed polite.

My husband goes to pay for our food and the waitress inquires if we were going to tip her which is incredibly rude and unprofessional in my opinion. My husband says no and she STILL charged the credit card for a tip!!!!!! 😠😠😠 I was outraged and very offended by this point. We walked out with our two kids as calmly as we could and will never go back. Rude, unprofessional, unfriendly service, a rude sign that basically states if they don't like you or if they are in bad mood they will add extra money to your tab, a very unfriendly, unwelcoming atmosphere. A place that smelled so bad of cleaner that it made my husband sick. All in all a very poor experience. I think I'll drive the extra miles and stick to the Lakeside Bollweevils. Where the burgers are giant and delicious, the atmosphere is very friendly and welcoming, the place smells of delicious food and the waitresses are professional, friendly, super nice, ( don't beg for tips ) and get your...

Okay so honestly I don't think this place even deserves 1 star but you have to put at least 1 so I did. My little family of four went to play some pool a few nights ago & we played for about 45minutes & never once did a waiter ask if we would like a menu. I finally walked to the counter to place an order,then returned to play pool with my family. After our order came as I'm playing pool with my daughter I glance up and notice one waiter by the name of Rhonda giving me a very rude look as she is taking another costumers order. I just smiled & went on with my game. I mentioned the waiter to my husband..not by name just that a waiter had given me a very rude look & he described her to me again not by name just hair style & hit the nail on the head as to what waiter it was & goes on to tell me that the hand full of times hes come he she hasn't been very friendly. This place used to have a lot of heart and a sense of community. The food used to be great, not anything ground-breaking, but good enough to keep you coming back at least for special occasions. After covid, the owner completely checked out and it sadly shows. I can forgive the poor service, but what I can't forgive is the laziness they put into making the food now.

I used to never have to worry about getting food poisoning from Boll Weevil, but the last two times I have eaten here, I've had terrible food poisoning. The most recent visit was about a week and a half ago with some friends and we were ALL throwing up later that evening.
