Visiting the safari park and saw this restaurant as highly rated. The reviews were convincing so we gave it a try. Monday early evening around 5pm and there were a couple tables with customers but mostly empty. We were sat right away in a table for 4 even though we were a party of 5, 2 of which are 4yo and 8yo so we didn't think anything of it.
We ordered the crab Rangoon, Tom yum soup, spring rolls, red curry, pad see ew, and spicy green beans.
Everything was just OK. The soup was way too sweet, not soup enough. Crab Rangoon was unspectacular. Spring roll was just lettuce, mint, cucumber and a half shrimp. It was very plain and it lacks vermicelli. The peanut sauce was good so it enhanced the spring roll.
The noodle in the pad see ew was way overcooked. Very mushy and stuck together. Way too sweet as well. The red curry wasn't bad but also way too sweet. Spicy green bean was also lackluster.
The service was just OK. Our server was not very friendly and didn't have any smiles. She did check on us so no complaints there.
Overall, if you're looking for authentic Thai food, this is not it. And I'm most certainly sure this is not the best Thai food in San diego area as some reviews may have suggested. But if you're OK with white washed version Thai food, you'll enjoy...
Read moreI went here with a friend based on their choice. I have never been before. I had an appetizer based on their recommendation, which was some sort of shrimp wrap with peanut sauce, and I would agree that it was okay. It was a cold appetizer and decent, but it wasn't a WOW experience. As far as the service goes I will start out by saying that I realize this may be a culture thing, but when I go to a restaurant i go with the intention to enjoy my food as well as the person I am with and I didn't appreciate the server reaching in front of my food while eating to remove dishes off the table from my friends almost finished meal, without asking first if they were done or if they could take anything away. It left me feeling as if my patronage wasn't appreciated, and I was being rushed out the door. We definitely didn't stay for dessert if they even offered any there. The atmosphere was okay. But it was the person I was with that made it better, not the establishment. Overall, I would say that this might be more of a take out vs. a come and dine with us experience. It's definitely not a place to go to sit, be social, and dine. But if you are in a rush to get out, eat something real fast, and then be on your way, well then, this may very well be the...
Read moreI'm a frequent customer of Pinto, I've been for the last few years though I typically order pickup, which is consistently an impressive 20 minutes on average. The food, no matter what I order is always tasty (and very well priced!), they don't skimp on the protein and the veggies are always cooked just right. I typically order the Tom Kha soup with chicken, I've had most of their curries, and my favorite noodles are chow mein and drunken noodles. When I have people over and I don't feel like cooking, pinto is my go-to as well. The chow mein with different proteins is always a people pleaser. The restaurant rates spiciness from mild, medium, hot and extra hot. I love spicy food and I think their difference between medium and hot is noticeable, medium for me is on their milder side but can taste the spice, and hot is spicy but it doesn't take over the flavor of the food. I typically get my soups "hot" and entrees "medium." Their service is fast and friendly and lastly, their restaurant is always sparkling clean, it's pretty and the ambience is friendly and good for...
