Cowgirl Cafe — Restaurant in California

Had the weekend-only special of Eggs Benedict. It was good, the hash browns were surprisingly good also. I've had them before and they tasted like grill cleaner. Arrived early to avoid the crowd. Only two tables were occupied and I sat in the corner after a short tussle with Leslie, the only waitress on duty. She wanted to stick me in the dark hallway no-man's-land outside the noisy pick up window. Food was good, service was barely acceptable. She cheerfully showered the next solo diner with a list of seating options. Hmm? Maybe I need to be a young, good looking, cowboy to get better service? She timed her swing-by to ask about the food when I had a mouthful and could not speak. She decided for me that everything was fine and took off. Not sure why this place had only one waitress on duty until 8:30 on a Sunday. No bus boys, no cashier, no extra help. After taking my order the place quickly started filling up, the phone started ringing with to-go orders, and the one waitress could clearly used some backup. Maybe someone failed to show up? Might be the reason for surliness? I used to have breakfast here regularly and I'm not sure why I keep going back. Probably out of nostalgia more than anything. Breakfast sandwich, didn’t get order right. It took 2 times for my order to try and get it right. On the 2nd time it was brought it was still missing the ham. They end up bringing me the ham, by that time, my sandwich was cold. Bacon was hard. It felt like I was chewing a hard piece of plastic. Cheese tasted like really low quality cheese. I just took 2 bites, the 2nd one I just couldn’t swallow it. Even giving it 1 star is being too generous. It is a cute restaurant. I love how they have it decorated. I know the waitress wrote my order right in the ticket, and her writing was pretty and clear so I don’t understand why they couldn’t...

The omelet wasn't an omelet. The ingredients were thrown on top in a pile. The staff argued with my friend, who gets this same item almost every week, that that is just how they were made. They gave us the wrong potatoes even though I had spoken my request clearly (and was verified by my friend). Mistakes happen, but when the staff argues with you instead of just replacing it, there's a problem. My favorite though was when we asked to sit near a window (all their 2-seaters look like they are in the darkest places), even though the place was not busy, we were told they would make us move if they needed the table.
