I recently visited Nation’s Giant Hamburgers & Great Pies after discovering their tempting pie photos on Google Maps. The name itself intrigued me—“Giant Burger”—so I decided to give it a try. I drove almost an hour from home just to check it out, and overall, it was worth the trip! I ordered onion rings, a bacon cheeseburger, and a drink. The onion rings were hot, fresh, and crunchy—definitely a highlight! Just a heads-up, they come out piping hot, so be careful. The burger was delicious, especially the freshly cooked bacon, which added a fantastic flavor. The veggies in the burger were crisp and fresh, and the cheese melted nicely. Unfortunately, the drink was disappointing—it seemed like it was missing enough syrup, leaving it a bit bland. As for dessert, I grabbed a slice of cheesecake to go and enjoyed it later with a cup of Peet’s Coffee. The cheesecake was rich and tasty—a perfect sweet finish to my visit. The only downside is that the restaurant doesn’t have its own restroom, so I had to use the gas station’s restroom next door. Overall, I enjoyed the food, and I’d definitely recommend this place if you’re craving a good burger and pie! 🍔🥧

Nation’s Giant Hamburgers in Pinole is an absolute American classic—a place where history and flavor come together for a truly decadent experience. Stepping inside, visitors are greeted by the aroma of sizzling burgers and fresh pies, a tradition that spans over 70 years since Nation’s first opened as a humble hot dog stand in 1952. Over the decades, it has become legendary for its giant, juicy burgers served with crisp veggies on toasted buns, generous breakfast plates, and impossibly delicious pies, all in a cheerful, retro diner setting. If you haven’t tasted Nation’s before, prepare to be spoiled—this is diner comfort food at its best, with portion sizes and old-school hospitality that never disappoint. Locals and travelers alike swear by the bacon cheeseburgers, hand-spun shakes, and the seasonal pie selection. Eating here is like taking a bite out of true Bay Area history, with every meal crafted to satisfy and every booth bursting with nostalgia.

I love Nation's have been eating there since I was a teenager. My rating is only based on the visit today, usually the rating would be at least 4 stars maybe 4.5. I was a little disappointed today because I ordered my go to the grilled cheese sandwich, which was good but as you will see in the picture the bread is barely toasted. The whole point of a grilled cheese sandwich is to get that crust and char on the outside and that is definitely missing. This won't prevent me from going back, I will just make sure to add brown the bread to make sure that I get a true Grilled Cheese Sandwich. The picture is of both sides.

If you grew up in or frequent the area you know the customer service isnt the same. I went here 2 days ago for breakfast upon arrival I called a new lady with limited English skills told me there is no breakfast meals. I called 4x and asked to speak to someone who knew better English bc I have been coming since childhood. The 4th time she agreed and my phone died so I went in. It was a middle age guy as the cook , 1 lady customer service ok and then th3 broken English lady. I asked did you guys stop the Grande breakfasts which are meals correct? The lady replied no I in return asked well whomever was taking phone orders stated that, she went to the back and bought the broken English lady to the front and explained to her in Spanish my question and the correct answer I told her I may look young but I am not as young as I look and have been coming here for 20 years the customers service in the morning is declining. She apologized and offered a free drink which i declined. I try to catch the swing shift bc they are still some of the older crew and I cant recall any issues with them. Maybe only twice in 2 years such as grilled onions not being on my burger or minor things but daytime shift has...
