At the end of last summer we brought my grandmother here who hadn’t been here in 49 years. The last time she had visited was with her husband who had been dying of cancer. It was the last little trip they took together. Sorry for the sob story. She had seldom talked about this place over the years so I made it a mission to go. We needed to bring her back.
We had the BEST experience. This place is historically beautiful inside and out. The staff is super friendly, kind and outstanding.
The food portions are huge, so worth it. There’s al la crate options or family style that comes with soup, salad, antipasto. The soup and salad is bomb, so it’s worth it. Plus who doesn’t love leftovers. Their homemade minestrone soup is one of the best I have ever had. My dad also got the clam chowder which was a special that night and delicious; buttery delicious. They bring out hot French bread, which anyone in the San Francisco Bay Area knows French bread is out of this world.
Some of the things we got were ——-my brother got spaghetti and meatballs, with two huge meatballs. MMMMM
My dad got lasagna that was 5-7 layers, huge sausage pieces and cheese galore. So pretty as he cut into it and tasted great.
I got chicken Parm which was a special. It was loaded with tomato chunks and cheese. Over a bed of angel hair or penne. Highly recommend.
My mom had chicken cacciatore also a special. The chicken was cooked to perfection falling off the bone. Came with potatoes and veggies and a small plate of raviolis. These homemade raviolis are top of the line.
We had the best experience and time; that we came back for Christmas dinner with even more of our family. There was a different menu that night. The place was packed, the staff was again outstanding, the drinks were great. We ordered a lot of prime ribs at our table and everyone was happy, happy happy. For dessert we had their carrot cake and let me tell you— GET IT. And we got their cheesecake mmmmm.. most of, if not all of their food is homemade and from scratch and that’s what makes it special
This family runned business is something special. We have enjoyed our visits and we always look forward to coming back. The hostess who is standing by the cashier is one of the kindest human beings we have ever met. We love speaking with her and sharing with her how much we love their food and staff. My brother and I proudly wear our Union Hotel apparrelnand get tons of compliments. I highly recommend coming to visit this place. The drive is beautiful and breath taking. It’s in the cutest little town and a great place for a getaway from...
Read moreMy husband & brother & I went last night, & it was beautifully decorated for Christmas. We always order their delicious pizzas to go, or sometimes one of their dinners. But, last night we all wanted to dine in.
As always it was perfect. Starting with our lovely waitress Susan. What a wonderful Lady. She was so pleasant, & kept checking on us, plus she got the bartender to make my Fav drink whiskey, ginger ale with a cherry.
We all ordered their ribeye steaks, with all the extras. Now, I'm from S.F., & I have been to the House of Prime Rib, as well as many other steak houses, & the Union has the Best, tastiest, ribeye I have ever had. Both my hubby & brother agree. I don't know where they get their steaks from, but wow , just the best. And cooked to perfection. They had the most delicious mashed potatoes too. The asparagus was very good also. I had to take a lot of my dinner home, because I had the clam chowder which again was some of the best I have ever had. Creamy, & lots of clams with a wonderful, fresh clam taste. Then there was the garden salad, with homemade marinated kidney beans , an appetizer of cheeses & salami, along with their wonderful sourdough bread & yummy breadsticks. Then just before the main course they bring out a platter of freshly made ravioli in a delicious tomato sauce topped with Parmesan cheese. I love their raviolis & sometimes get them to go for dinner. Which we always order their garlic bread to go with them when I just don't feel like cooking. Their garlic bread has fresh, garlic chopped on it. Wow! So, good! Last, but not least, one of the owners told me to wait for a minute on the way out, then came back & gave me a beautiful, large cookie that was shaped in the image of the Union Hotel! What a perfect night! The Gonnella Family are all such lovely people, & they are continuing their great family's tradition of great food, & service! They have a bakery too, &...
Read moreWe were looking for some place relaxing and delicious after driving around wine country and we found this great little place. Great ambiance. We chose a spot on the adorable little patio to enjoy the gorgeous weather. Immediately, we were given water and bread basket. The service staff were very friendly, attentive, and really made us feel welcome!
Now, onto the second most Important thing: Food. Let's talk about the bread sticks for a second. So yummy! A little bit of a crust on the outside and soft and delicious on the inside! The hard part was making sure I didn't fill up on them. I ordered the bruschetta and the creamy pesto tortellini. Word of warning, unless you're ordering a la carte you get antipasto (sliced meats, cheese and olives), salad and soup all served family style. It is a LOT of food but everything was fresh and delicious and I was happy to take it home with us. The bruschetta was my favorite! It was served on lightly toasted baguette (baked in house) roasted tomatoes, garlic and I can't remember the rest of the ingredients I blacked out somewhere mid bite. Next came the tortellini in the creamy pesto. The pesto sauce was fresh didn't feel heavy or oily at all. The pasta was perfectly cooked and I couldn't get enough! So being stuffed as I was when they asked if we wanted to order dessert, I gave into the weakness and said yes. Let me also mention this place also has a cafe/bakery where they have all of their fresh baked daily, pastries and I am chubby and a sucker for pastry. We asked what they had from the day and ordered an apple galete and some apricot blackberry turnovers to go. I was NOT disappointed at all. Flakey, sweet, tart, sinful and debaucherous. The price point is on the higher end of mid-range but considering everything that you get and the overall experience, absolutely worth it! I will be going back especially if I keep dreaming of...
