Title: Mediocre Lunch Experience at Penny's Diner
Rating: ★★☆☆☆
I recently visited Penny's Diner in Yermo, California for a midday meal, hoping to enjoy a satisfying lunch. However, my experience fell short of expectations. While the food left much to be desired, there were some aspects of the non-culinary experience that were relatively satisfactory.
The building and decor of Penny's Diner were charming and maintained a classic diner aesthetic. The exterior had a nostalgic appeal, reminiscent of traditional American diners. Inside, the decor had a vintage flair, with retro-inspired furnishings and a cozy atmosphere. The ambiance was pleasant enough, providing a comfortable setting for a casual lunch.
However, despite the decent aesthetics, there were some areas for improvement. The seating arrangements could have been more comfortable, as the chairs were somewhat lacking in support. Upgrading the seating options would greatly enhance the overall comfort and enjoyment for customers during their dining experience.
Additionally, while the diner had a certain nostalgic charm, it lacked the bustling energy and lively atmosphere often associated with a vibrant lunch spot. It would have been more engaging and memorable if there had been a livelier ambiance, perhaps with some background music or other elements to create a more lively and immersive dining environment.
In conclusion, my lunch experience at Penny's Diner in Yermo, California was mediocre. While the food fell short in terms of flavor and attention to detail, the building and decor maintained a charming aesthetic. However, improvements in seating comfort and the creation of a livelier atmosphere would go a long way in elevating the overall dining experience at...
Read moreWent to Pennys for dinner on Wednesday, 5th April 2017 approximately 6:30 pm. Nobody inside to greet us. I asked if anyone was there...no answer. After about 5 minutes a young guy appears. His clothes were gravy stained, shirt untucked and generally he was very slovenly looking. Not once would he come to our table, greet us nor even look us in the eyes. He mumbled in a low moan it sounded like and he never left his position behind the counter. He had some earbud headphones in his ears. My wife asked if she could get the side salad with her meal. Nope the resupply truck hasn't come yet. When asked if she could get a baked potato with her fish meal, I think he mumbled wait a minute then ambled off back to the kitchen, returning several minutes later saying no baking potatoes. Again, he is still behind the counter taking our order. When I asked if they had meatloaf tonight, all I got was a gutteral moan from this young man.
That was the last straw for me. My wife and I got up, put $5.00 on the table for our water and ice tea and started to leave. I stated to this young man that he obviously either did not want to be there nor cared to wait on us, come to our table when taking our order and be aware of what specials or items were available.
Well, we voted with our feet and money by not staying in an establishment that shows little regard for their local clientele. We will never set foot inside Penny's Diner NOR recommend it any friends/visitors ever again.

Read moreMy sister and I normally go to Peggy Sue's when heading to Arizona. While Peggy Sue's is mostly fun for the shopping and lake outback, their food has just been okay for us. When we stumbled upon Penny's just down the road, we figured what the heck, what do we have to lose? Well, we went inside, and it is quaint and quite small, we had zero expectations. Upon sitting down, Eduardo greeted us and said there was a QR code to view the menu. I am not gonna lie, we both find it very inconvenient and ridiculous, but he was gracious and allowed us to use his tablet to view the menu. We ordered and ate, and we were both pleasantly surprised how great tasting everything was, and Eduardo was great! That was our first visit there. On our next visit there, just last week, we were taken care of by Carrie Ann and Emily and boy were they both just absolutely fantastic! They had a full house and the server doesn't even write orders down, and she got the food correct!! Between the two they cooked, took orders and served tasty, fresh food. We couldn't be happier with making the switch from Peggy Sue's (nothing against PS, it's nice to have an alternative). Fantastic service!! My only complaint is not having menus to hold in my hands. I mean, you're supposed to be an old-timey diner. C'mon. Get menus and I would give you 5 stars! We have recommended you to our parents as well. Looking forward to the next trip out to AZ for a meal at Penny's in...
