Ok I'm confused as to some of the other reviews because my wife and my experience was not good. First off we drove from Sacramento to spend a day at the ocean which was wonderful ... a perfect day. It was my wife's Birthday so we just wanted to make a day of it, topping it off with some good fresh local seafood. We actually were going to eat at Fishiterian but once we got there we realized we wanted something just a little less casual. So on our way back to the car we walked by Rocker which looked closed from the outside. Seriously we almost kept walking until my wife pulled on the front door and surprise, they were open. So we went in and got seated next to a windows which was great. Nice dock with fishermen unloading fresh catches and we're thinking oh boy this is going to be good. Our server Autumn by the way was great! No complaints whatsoever. She was pleasant, friendly, efficient... just great. Ok so to get to the point here ... we ordered the Crab and Artichoke Cakes for an app to share, Clam Chowder for each of us, and my wife ordered the Crab Louie and I had the Fish and Chips. Crab and Artichoke Cakes... had some predominant spice that we could not identify but it overtook the Cakes. No Crab or Artichoke taste just this mystery spice. Clam Chowder... very little Clams, mostly little chunks of potato and a little pile of bacon. And yet another mystery spice that we could not identify that completely took over the Chowder ... was driving us crazy when we finally asked our server Autumn who said we were the second people that afternoon who asked the same thing. She went back and asked the chef. Guess what? Fennel! Lot's of Fennel. In Clam Chowder? Crazy, never have had that in Chowder... we didn't finish it. Wife's Louie was fresh but for the price not much Crab... we compare to Skomas in San Francisco but maybe that's unrealistic. Lot's of lettuce though. My Fish and Chips were humongous... two huge pieces with fries. Fish inside the batter was great. The batter was OK... credit that it was not greasy. Fries were ok. Overall for spending over 140.00 including the tip for the two of us, I would not go back. Now I do believe the chef's heart is in the right place but execution on the items we ordered was not good. The star of the meal needs to be the freshness of the fish, the taste No weird spices or anything else. I have no problem paying top dollar for good food but it has to be good, not just ok. And you know, I still tip generously unless service is noticeably bad, which it wasn't. So my apologies to this establishment for leaving this kind of review which I have never done before. In fact I can't remember the last time I ...
Read moreI chose this place based on so many good reviews, but I have to share my opinion for that 1% who might be disappointed like me and save them that disappointment. Mondays are half-price oysters. Great, right, as oysters are expensive. My love and I made our way to the ocean, and I really wanted to pick up oysters on the way there. At such a good price, I decided to just once turn my back on my usual spot Fishehetarian, and try oysters from this place (can't beat the price, right?). Well, it turns out that you can not order online unless you have downloaded a relatively unfamiliar app, which I did not want to download for this one order. Otherwise, call in. That wouldn't be the problem except ; we call in just to have a girl on the other line yelling how she can't hear us. Of course you can't. The background noise was deafening. After we "got disconnected " by her, we called again, a different person answered, and we were promptly put on hold for about 11 min, after which time, we decided to "accidentally disconnected" Fine, we will order there. The order consisted of garlic butter oysters, rockomoto, and oysterfellers. After waiting for about 20 min (not a problem), we received 3 cardboard boxes. No utensils, no lemon wedges, nothing but three boxes that contained a ton of salt and oysters on them. I mean, the amount of salt was unbelievable, and it covered oysters in all three boxes that I had to scrape off "toppings" on every single oyster. With my fingers as no utensils were provided. That didn't help either. The taste of each flavor was awful. The result was uneaten oysters. Anyone who knows me knows that's almost impossible. I have never not finished oysters until now. Yes, it was a takeout, but that wasn't my first rodeo. And why didn't we eat there when we got there? Because there was so much noise, I couldn't hear my own thoughts. This place left me...
Read moreI'd been to Rocker Oysterfellers for dinner 5 or 6 times back in the day pre-pandemic and always really enjoyed it - food, ambiance, drinks - all worth the trip from Oakland. I had not been there (or to any restaurants really) since the original shutdowns in March 2020, and decided it would be a fun place to go and sit (safely) outside for dinner on my birthday, a Thursday evening. I looked up the menu and hours on their website where it appeared that, in addition to the yummy menu (fried chicken!) that I remember, they also offered a Mexican 'pop-up' on Tuesday-Thursday. I called the restaurant two days ahead and told them I was coming for my birthday, asked them about sitting outside, about the fried chicken, etc - and at no time did they tell me they were ONLY serving the Mexican menu. Drove the hour and a half up there looking very forward to said fried chicken and other items for a special dinner, and upon being seated saw that the only menu available was the 'Mexican pop-up." All well and good, but never would have driven that far for a special bday dinner had they informed me the normal/old menu was not available. That said - our server was wonderful - a young woman who got everything right and made things fun - but the food was definitely not what I came all that way for. They should make this clear on the website, and, more importantly, if someone calls specifically asking about the menu for a special occasion like a birthday - inform them what they're in for! Food was tasty, but barely warm. Good martini took the sting out of it all - but, really, this should be pretty basic. Quite...
