Ever since I was a boy, I've had a fear of lettuce. I think it all started when my mom had left me with her brother for the summer. He lives in a rural town in Kentucky and was into a lot of weird things like building doll houses and taking in one legged grasshoppers from the animal shelter. But it's what he would do with the heads of lettuce that would forever creep me out. 2 weeks after being there, one day I woke up and heard my uncle talking... No, yelling, at whoever was at the kitchen with him. I didn't want to intrude or be impolite but I walked in there anyways... Big mistake. He was juggling heads of lettuce for a group of senior citizens he would pick up every Sunday. They were alcoholics waiting for that sour taste of death to finally destroy their liver. The energy in that room had a creepy, eerie feeling to it, because the animals that the elderly had brought were all howling and scratching the floor. But that didn't stop my uncle from stopping. He juggled until his hands bled. He juggled until the curious eyes of the elderly had lost their moisture and sunken in this Kentucky heat. Finally what my uncle did what the lettuce will never leave my mind. He had taken the lettuce apart, leaf by leaf, rolling them and sticking them into the elderlys' noses. He had created a game. A game where the elderly had to remove their dentures and chew the lettuce off each others faces. Ever since that day I've never been able to get my life together. I've been married to a druggie, I lost my car in the San Francisco earthquake, I lost my bestfriend Mhuhammad to the swine flu, I had contracted shingles at the early age of 20, my right leg is longer than my left, and living in California I've never really learned how to speak spanish. At the time of my life changing event, I was 47 years old. Didn't have a job. But fate changed that summer when I was dumpster diving behind a Mexican restaurant. I had been doing so for the past 5 years. Someone, and by someone I mean most likely a kid, had left half of a burrito in one of the dumpsters. I had never really cared what was inside of the burritos I found, as long as it was something wrapped with a tortilla. But wow, it gave such a jolt to my chakra, reviving every drop of spiritual mist I had in my body. It really did change my life. Later on I found out that the restaurant was Rosaritos by a student in my class, yes I am a professor at SDSU teaching the early signs of gum disease in Obese cats that are creating an epidemic in the capital of Russia, Moscow. Every friday since then, I made it a ritual to take the prettiest of my students in my convertible Porsche, and introduce them to a life changing experience of a California burrito with cold, wet, crispy, green, flavourful, tasty, tingling, warm, mesmerizing seduction of one of the ingredients. The Lettuce.
Truly yours, Demetrius...
Read moreWent here last night (4/16/2024) on my way east. There were enough good reviews for me to try it.
I was wholly impressed. I still am as I just finished the second half of my burrito for lunch.
Some reviewers have said the service was bad. That has to be false or maybe the wrong place.
I entered and was greeted warmly by the cashier. Looking over the menu I was indecisive, so I asked her recommendation.
I took her up on the Surf and Turf burrito. While I waited, they gave me free chips and salsa. Chips were nice and light. Salsa had good flavor.
The burrito came and I couldn't hold back my surprise at the sheer size of it. And then I bit into it. Man, oh man. It was soooo good. I promised myself that I would only eat half, but after eating half, I had a couple more bites of the other half before forcing myself to wrap it up and save it for today. I'm glad that I did as it made for a pleasant lunch.
I eat Mexican food all over the county. Heck all over the state as well as a little down in Mexico. I've also had it in other states (but most other states it's more TexMex or eastern Mexican food...which is very different)
This has to have been the best Surf & Turf Burrito I've ever had.
And as far as customer service goes. At least one other patron had never been there before (like me) and he was treated with kindness and respect like I was. So it wasn't just my charming personality.
Someone else commented about them closing early. It's a mom & pop type place. I think they reserve the right to close early if they aren't busy.
It's good stuff. I'll be going back when I'm out that way and hankering for some good...
Read moreIt's bad enough that when you order a lot of food and you ask for a lot of hot sauce to go with it that you get attitude 9 times out of 10. To top it off I placed an order through the phone for nine chicken rolled tacos and this place takes forever to get food out...so I made sure to place an order on my way home from work. only to arrive at this location to be told that they are out of chicken and have not started on an order for me. I asked if they have caller ID and they did have caller ID but decided not to call back the number that just called them and inform me that they are out of chicken. so now I wasted my time driving out of the way to come here only to be told that my food is not available and I would need to place an order now and wait about 20 minutes for it to be ready. Horrible customer service. The only reason why this place is busy is because there are not many food options on old highway 80.. The two gentlemen that work here are helpful and have good attitudes. If the owner is reading this he needs to correct the situation with the female employees. they have horrible attitudes every time we come here, like they hate their job, like they hate your customers, like this is the last place they want to be. Keep them or keep your customers.....
