Top Town Cafe — Restaurant in California

I have been coming here for 20 years, since it was "The Loose Caboose". Until today, it has always been a positive experience. Today, a Sunday morning, when it was not busy, I waited longer than I thought necessary to get a menu. After I finally placed my order I waited 25 minutes for my food to arrive. This was after finally going up to the counter and asking if my order had been lost. With no apology or explanation for the delay, I was told that my breakfast was "on the way". About 3 minutes later, my food arrived at my table, again without apology. I had to ask for the salsa and sour cream, which were included on the menu. During my meal, no one ever came by to inquire if I needed anything else or to ask if everything was satisfactory. When the bill arrived, the price on my check was $1.00 more than the price on the menu. I know because I asked the server to bring me a menu. I verified that I was correct: the menu price was $13.95, and the bill was for $14.95. When I pointed this out, the server pointed to a small sticker, obviously somewhat old, on the cover of the menu which stated that actual prices are from $.50 to $2.00 more than those stated on the menu. This, to me, is very poor business practice. First, due to the age of the sticker, it seems that this practice has been in effect for some time, so why not print new menus, which reflect the correct prices? Second, I would think it prudent for servers to point out the discrepancy before customers place their orders. Finally, because of 1)a very long wait to be served, 2)indifferent wait staff, 3) incorrect menu prices, and 4) inflated bill total if you pay by credit card, it will be a very long time before I will give the Top Town Cafe my...

I highly recommend getting the Taco salad here, they make it really well cooked, especially the carne asada, and vegitatarian options! The shell of the taco is made just right, and really crisp and tasty. This is my favorite dish here I always get. :) the servers are always helpful, and ask if we need anything, they are amazing! (try their delicious brownies too, at the front counter. : )

Thank you Esperanza for always being a good host and treating all the Customers we'll! Great service and friendly people here, this restaurant really makes the mountain ⛰️ atmosphere and space have good friendly vibes and it's a good place to come to right when you enter Top Town :) .

I highly recommend coming here with friends and family that are visiting the mountain life and also want to be introduced to dining on the mountain, with good connections and history around the area, this is a must visit to enjoy the well made food with great prices.

I always run into people that i know from the mountain, and the more you come here, you will feel like family 👪 :)

Still great! Has a great taco...

Food I have had has been awesome. Have had the meatloaf, mixed veggies, mashed potatoes, chicken fried steak, eggs Benedict, scrambled eggs with all the fixins. All were delicious. Portions are generous you will not walk away hungry for sure. The coffee is good too. Here is something i found amazing is that they make the Holandais sauce per order and from scratch, not something you see now a days (easier to use a mix). The prices are very reasonable

The staff is very personable, it is a mountain cafe basically a down to earth people. Actually had a waitress Crystal called me darlin I felt like I was home. Besides the food she is the reason I came back and will continue to do so. All the staff are friendly and attentive. They have an extensive menu, breakfast, lunch and dinner. From Mexican fare to all the comfort food you can handle.
