Organic Bread of Heaven — Restaurant in Calumet Township

I wish I could say that I had a good experience with this company. Unfortunately that's not the case. I spoke to Abigail and expressed how the bread was very dry upon receiving and the taste was subpar and not ideal. I asked for a refund because I wasn't happy with how the food tasted and neither did my family members.

Then I was told by Abigail word for word via email: "I am sorry, there is absolutely no way your order was stale as we bake and ship all orders fresh. Your order was baked and shipped fresh and arrived in prime shipping time as well. I just checked over the details on your order. We bake and ship each product just for the order that is placed. We have had absolutely no issues with freshness."

It's disappointing to see they do not offer refunds whatsoever. Granted, you will never satisfy every single customer and if a customer is not happy with the taste and requests a refund, I would think the company will want to continue to satisfy their customers even if they weren't happy with the order they received by thanking them for trying the products out and give a refund. I am here, with wasted food in the fridge and $60 in the drain.

If you are wanting to try this food out, I suggest only buying ONE loaf of bread if any... before order one type of each bread because then you may be left with disappointment and money wasted. It appears they value profit over people. Such a shame.

UPDATE: Replying to the owner's reply to my review below - I did share that the bread was dry upon receiving, and stale. And it tasted subpar. That taste was because the bread was dry and stale. Which is out of my control as well, as I was hoping the bread would be fresh and it did not appear to be, unfortunately. Which is why I requested for a refund, yet I still haven't gotten a refund. How disappointing. I understand you bake with clean ingredients, which is why I ordered from you in the first place because of the reviews I saw. While I like the quality of the ingredients I did not receive my order until three days after it was baked. The New York bagels still tasted good, but the sourdough ones were somewhat stale and my kids would not finish eating them. Surprisingly, the company solicited a review from me but never addressed my concerns, and of course that review does not appear on their website (ie. they only post the positive ones). I therefore felt compelled to write this review in a more unbiased forum for the benefit of potential customers.

I appreciate the owner's response below. To clarify, I paid for two day shipping so I expected my ordered to arrive in two days, not three. In addition, I grew up in Bergen County New Jersey, and am very familiar with what a 'true' New York Bagel is. I am pretty sure coconut oil, apple cider vinegar and flaxmeal are not standard ingredients. So whether intentional or not, to suggest that my dissatisfaction was somehow due to my not knowing what a 'true' New York bagel is supposed to taste like is both absurd and a moot point. As I stated above, I like the ingredients, but was upset that my order took longer than expected to arrive, which I do feel compromised the freshness, and frustrated that after I took the time to respond to a direct request for product feedback FROM the company, nobody bothered to follow up and address...

You have to be kidding me! The guy who wrote the negative comment is classless and clueless. These guys are masters at what they do. I'm 100% vegan and I've been a chef for 20 years. I accidentally ran into the two sons( owners) at Sunset foods. I had no idea who they were. I was looking for some vegan bread and they were stocking the shelves with their items. I asked them if they knew of any vegan products for me and they told me yes, theirs were vegan. I never really get to enjoy any sweets because they always contain eggs and milk. I bought the chocolate chip bread loaf and ate the entire thing in one day. I went back and bought the banana and again ate the entire thing in one day then I went with my 13 year old and bought the zucchini bread. My son took one bite and said "this is better tasting than I could imagine" he's hooked just like I am. The only problem is I can't buy one without eating the whole thing in one day. I crave it and so does my family. It's clean tasting and made by amazing people. This family deserves to be in every grocery store across the country.
