No I haven't been to Italy. No I am not Italian. No I am not an expert in Italian cuisine but I'm pretty sure Italy would be proud. I have been to Sorelle a couple of times now and all I can say is eccezionale. In Italian that means exceptional, outstanding, extraordinary. Sorelle is located in a tiny strip mall, tucked away in a middle of a residential neighborhood. At first glance it really doesn't look like much but hidden inside who would've thought to have authentic Italian food.
What separates Sorelle from other Italian restaurants is of course their food but I have to give them credit for their customer service. This restaurant doesn't specialize in gluten free items but the owners told me they have a lot of experience with food allergies and know the right precautions to take and if needed they could modify a few of the menu items easily. If that isn't top notch and going above and beyond then I don't know what is.
I ended up ordering Calamari Frutti - $9.00 served with roasted garlic aioli and spicy cocktail sauce. Fried wonderfully and season to perfection.
Arancini- $8.95 Risotto balls stuffed with ground beef, mozzarella cheese, tomato sauce and served with pesto and marinara. So creamy and cheesy I was tempted on ordering another one!
Baked Ziti with meatball -$14.95 Baked penne Bolognese smothered in tomato sauce, topped with mozzarella cheese. I was surprised on how tender the pasta was.
Chicken Risotto $14.95 - My boyfriend ordered this and knowing me I have to invade everybody's dishes and taste test it for myself. Their Risotto was so unbelievably creamy I regretted not ordering this for my main course.
Trust me on this you should not live life with any regrets and passing this down would be a big mistake. If you are ever in the area definitely check out Sorelle. Italian food so good Robert De Niro...
Read moreA couple months ago, we decided to try this little restaurant. It had all of these fantastic reviews and the parking lot always seemed full (it's a small lot but was always packed).
We ordered for takeout and the first problem was that our food wasn't ready at the promised time. OK, no big deal. It's a pretty small restaurant and it was busy. I was fine waiting a little bit longer. It ended up being at least another ten minutes. It was somewhat frustrating, but good food is worth waiting for.
Wrong.
There was nothing good about our meal. It was flavorless and the sauce was awful. I ended up taking three bites and tossing the rest because I couldn't eat it. My husband's food was only slightly better. He was able to get through about half before he gave up and tossed his, too.
We sat there, baffled. How could something that was rated so well be so awful? Normally we would give a restaurant another chance in case we went on a bad night or ordered something that wasn't one of the best things on the menu, but it was overpriced and I didn't feel welcomed by the staff when I arrived (they actually suggested I leave and come back in a few minutes).
Bottom line: there are much better Italian restaurants in the area that are actually worth it. Don't waste your time or be duped by all the...
Read moreChances are you have a favorite neighborhood Italian restaurant. This might just be the ultimate version of that. Located in the center of San Tomas (what? You thought that expressway was named for some old Italian philosopher? Well, it kind of was, and it's appropriate that he was Italian, but I digress) is quite possibly the best neighborhood Italian restaurant there is.
Dishes are amazing works of art that tend more toward Roman style, with dishes that are lighter but pack tons of flavor. I usually get either the Pomodoro (spaghetti with fresh tomato and basil with just enough garlic and a fine, robust oil) or the Amatriciana which brings a delightful bit of heat and bacon to the lightly creamy tomato sauce. Honestly, I've never had a bad dish from there.
It's the perfect way to end your day? uhm, hour? (well, it's a micro strip mall next to the Farm Milk Dairy Drive-In, so) thrilling 5 minute tour of downtown San Tomas. Look, just go for Sorelle. It's...
