Like many places we enjoy having good food and drinks, as we get older these feel more enjoyable. Mountainside Cafe is certainly a place noteworthy of stopping in. Nestled in the upper corner of Eastern Connecticut, this little place has been a stop for the last 6 years. We enjoy car racing at nearby Lime Rock Park. Here you can enjoy great food, with portions that are decent, so bring your appetite. Yes, their coffee is really good. If you’re like me, a great cup of coffee goes a long way to starting your morning, freshly ground onsite for the perfect proportion and taste, they have it dialed in. They also have a bunch of pastry/ bakery options for people not wishing to have a hot breakfast. What made it even more special, was running into a very good friend from when we were teenagers. What else can one ask for, the making of new memories with a friend. Mountainside is 100% worth the stop, great food, coffee atmosphere, you name it. I wish it were closure, but that makes it more the reason for us to stop in for a great way to start our morning. Nice seeing you Jenn.

Mountainside Cafe is a Must-Visit! I had the pleasure of visiting Mountainside Cafe today, and it was an absolutely fantastic experience from start to finish. The moment you walk in, you're greeted with a wonderful, inviting vibe that sets the tone for a truly enjoyable meal. We tried the pulled chicken wrap and the avocado sandwich, and both were incredibly delicious. But it wasn't just the food that impressed; the service was absolutely tremendous—attentive, friendly, and efficient. And if you're a coffee lover, you have to try their cappuccino; it was tremendous, easily one of the best I've had. We also enjoyed their strawberry refresher drink. Honestly, everything about Mountainside Cafe was really good. If you're looking for a spot with great food, fantastic drinks, excellent service, and a super nice atmosphere in Connecticut, this is definitely the place to go. I can't wait to go back!

September 2024 If you are in the area, you really need to stop in for lunch. Today I stopped in and wanted some other than a burger. Don't get me wrong, their "Country Burger" is great. But I ordered the "Croque Monsieur" (ham, gruyere, parmesan and bechamel sauce on grilled sourdough). In one word.... AWESOME!!! November 2023 I stop at Mountainside Cafe a couple of times every year.  Always get great service and food!  Today I had the Country burger... It was  excellent!  They have a limited menu, so check their website for the current menu.

On my first visit there are some thumbs up and some things that would have resulted in a lower review but I did some research and that turned what would have been a 3 star review into a 4. First off... the building is beautiful... pine interior, clean lines, a fusion of cabin and city. The food is locally sourced farm to table and you can definitely taste the difference. Even the strawberries in November were amazing. The menu is quite small, 4 or 5 breakfast options and 4 or 5 sandwiches Our table ordered two western omelets and a healthy omelet. One person ordered the western without ham. Another person asked to upgrade to sweet potato fries. The omelets come with one slice of toast that is out of this world...get a side of it. The service was not that good. There were a lot of people working but things seemed slow and disconnected. One person took the order. The specialty coffee took a long time to arrive but the person in charge of making the coffee spent a long time talking to the many other staff members. It looked like there were at least 7 to 9 employees and it was not that busy. The person that brought our food did not know what it was when we asked a question. The service seemed so disconnected I had to do some research. On their website it did say they provide a safe space for those recovering to work. That totally changed my view. The menu has a note about their farm to table practices. I wish they would add a note about their community practices as well. That is something to be admired. I do feel they could benefit from having someone on hand to direct those working. It is very open concept so you can't help but notice what is going on around you. I will definitely return to try the...

This experience was a crappy lesson of looks can be deceiving. Not every busted looking establishment is bad, and not every aesthetically pleasing one is good. While this wasn't a shiny turd, the food was above average at best but pricey (like everything else is), and it's unwelcoming if you're not a local. I drive twice a week from Danbury to great barrington. I was curious about this place for awhile and finally stopped in.

The parking is terrible. Only like 10 spaces. if it's full you have to pull over by the mohawk trail which can be dangerous because of how fast people drive on this often quiet road and it can get busy.

Had a sausage egg and cheese on a bagel that was an additional $2 because I didn't want the English muffin and 2 smallish hash browns. The only meat substitute was vegan sausage 💀 please consider having turkey products. It was decent, above average but I would not go out of my way to return. Also had a loaded rice krispie which was good.

The service was suuuper slow and I was getting increasingly uncomfortable. If you don't want outsiders here, pick up the pace so they can get their food and go!

Go here if you're hungry from a hike, but pass this if you're a weary and hungry traveler or from out of state/outside the area. It's a shame because the interior is quite gorgeous and if not for the unfriendly locals I would have eaten inside. So it's a solid...
