My review is not meant to be harsh but more accurately informative compared to the dozens of diners I have eaten at across the country. A hard 3/5 is too low but a 4/5 is too high.
The server was wonderful. I was immediately tended to upon entry. The place was clean and someone was always ready to help if needed.
I ordered a fried seafood platter, and had some carrots on the side with some Cole slaw.
The food in general was decent and well cooked (minus two below exceptions). The food felt very generic (as I've had it before and it didn't feel like they were doing anything with it) which isn't a bad thing and is typical of a diner but this diner is priced higher than your average diner so I expected more.
Started with the soup, which was a Manhattan Clam Chowder. It was fantastic, well seasoned, and robust. Plenty of seafood present mixed with with the veggies.
My entree was all fried and I did not notice any issues with greasiness or bitter/old oil which implies to me they change their oil regularly. That is a nice plus for me personally.
The breaded fish fillet was good but lacked seasoning. Was tender and juicy.
The breaded shrimp was good but lacked seasoning and to be honest, resembled the panko shrimp I make from a frozen box bought from Costco for $2 a serving.
The breaded cake I had some parts were chewy. Overall it was good though and actually seasoned more.
The sides were the biggest let down. I had carrots that were mush and tasted like something that would come out of a can. Carrots should have had some maillard being they were called "candy carrots" and should have had more bite. I also don't mind adding S+P as needed but there was a lacking of seasoning with these as well. Considering they were one of the special sides at the time, I was really looking forward to having some caramelized carrots and that's not what I got. Even if they just sauteed those carrots for 2 minutes to add some color to them, it would have done a lot to make up for the texture.
The Cole slaw was definitely just generic cole slaw out of a tub bought from distro. It was good but I've had it a hundred times.
The cheesecake dessert was wonderful. While the portion size was extreme, it was very well presented and was deliciously smooth.
If I went back in the future it would be for their baked goods as the effort they put into those products seemed to outweigh that of the specials. I can look past salt and pepper as I can sort that myself but nothing else...
Read moreBased upon multiple meals encompassing breakfast, lunch, and dinner, I have had the opportunity to try a lot. The food has not disappointed me at all. My absolute favorite meal served at Talk of the Towne is breakfast. Their variety is superior to most diners with two pages of their menu dedicated to this meal. Enormous omelets, combination platters, and skillets are generously represented. These are selections that are available all day. They have an additional menu from 7-11 for breakfast specials. I have had many opportunities to try their salad bar, and I am very happy with the freshness and selection. It includes standard salad and fixings as well as potato and macaroni salad. They also offer stuffed grape leaves, whole hard-boiled eggs, and pickled beets. The dinner selections include really good seafood. I have had both fried and broiled seafood platters and thoroughly enjoyed them both. I especially like their crab cakes, which I do not like from most restraunts. They also offer large burgers for both lunch and dinner. The service is amazing, and over the time that we have gone here, we have found them to be extremely friendly and attentive. Overall, this is a definite place to try, and the newly remodeled dining area is bright and welcoming. It isn't a long drive from Delaware, but it is very much worth the trip
8 months ago: An intimately lit diner with an abundant amount of parking. I, personally, am not a fan of the intimate lighting, but that is only a personal opinion. The food was good and worth the drive. You received plenty, and they even still have a salad bar. The salad bar was clean and well stocked. The seafood platter I ordered was very good and not only a large portion, but each item was sizeable. From giant scallops to a huge crab cake, it was an excellent value and well worth the trip. It is a must do...
Read moreI’ve only been here twice, but after the second time coming tonight, I’d definitely like to stop in more. Not many diners in the area offer a salad bar, and being a bariatric patient, it’s right up my alley! They offer a soup/salad combo for $12 that comes with a large bowl of soup and all you can eat salad bar. There are a lot of topping and dressing options. They also offer macaroni and potato salad on the bar. Both of them lacked flavor in my opinion, but I did enjoy the rest of the salad bar. The blue cheese dressing was wonderful, as some diners make it super watery. This one was thick and flavorful. Last time we came, my husband got the chicken parm dinner and wasn’t a fan, but this time he tried the pasta combo and enjoyed it. It was a very large portion that came with 4 pieces of garlic bread. The kids menu is reasonably priced compared to other places. Another thing I have to note is cleanliness. This place was practically spotless when we came in tonight. When I went up to the salad bar, it looked as though it hadn’t been touched all day. I was impressed with that! Our server (I believe her name was Tania) was very nice and attentive. Our food came out very quickly. We...
