What changed?? New owners? New chef? I don’t know, but this is not the same restaurant as a few months ago. Today’s food was terrible. We had 3 great meals here in the last 6 months. A few short months ago, this place was very authentic and I was thrilled at their food (the last amazing dish here was fish with black bean sauce). I thought it was expensive, but worth it. I grew up in San Francisco going to authentic Szechuan restaurants and know good Chinese! This used to be it. Unfortunately - it’s not anymore. I’m so disappointed. Today was simply awful! There were only shredded carrots and onions in our dishes and NO veggies. Dishes were incredibly bland with almost no flavor. My husband’s fried rice was literally thrown on the grill for a second with soy sauce and dumped in the box. The rice wasn’t even thoroughly mixed, as there were huge clumps of gooey unseasoned white rice throughout. I wanted comfort food and got the Singapore noodles. Last time they were spicy and flavorful, and packed full of tasty veggies. Today the spices they used tasted burned and bland, and the dish was disgusting. I couldn’t eat it. And last, but not least, the fried wonton skins that they serve on the side to put in the soup were horrid! They were stale and old, and were obviously leftovers that were refried and then re-served. Gross! I’m so bummed. I thought I had found my place, but now, I will never go back. $50 is SO much money to waste on disgusting...
Read moreSome of the best authentic Sichuan cuisine I've had since being in Chengdu 20yrs ago in 2004 (comparing to Sichuan restaurants in Seattle, NYC, and the legendary Peter Chang's up in the DMV).
Generous portions. Amazed and feel so lucky that these folks (who are from Sichuan) have decided to open this restaurant so close to where I live. The staff are busy, but friendly. New building so the restaurant is very clean. I don't have to drive all the way out to Cary/Morrisville for real Chinese food anymore!
Honestly loved everything we ordered. String beans were on point for both flavor and texture. The fish soup with pickled veggies was both refreshing and a warm hug (if you like that kind of traditional dish). The beef dry pot, cauliflower dry pot, and fish with soft tofu were all absolutely delicious. Want to try the eggplant, mapo tofu, and cumin lamb next time we visit.
Cant speak for the Americanized menu, but if you're looking for authentic Sichuan cuisine, this is it. In Pittsboro, NC of all places... Run, don't walk here. You...
Read moreThis place is amazing!!! I am so glad they opened. We stopped by after my daughter's class at the Kid's Gym in the same shopping center. After living in Carrboro/CH 3 years and having to drive to Cary for Chinese food, we are so relieved to find an amazing authentic Chinese restaurant this side of the triangle. And actually arguably better than any we have had in Cary TBH.
If you love Szechuan food, all of the dishes are great. And REAL 夫妻肺片 (Fuqi feipian) whaaatt. The dumplings in spicy oil are also delicious. And the air outside the restaurant smells like real Szechuan spices :)
We stick to non-spicy dishes mostly since the kids can't manage the Szechuan flavors yet. We get the dry sauteed green beans, bok choy with black mushroom, and typically a chicken dish like the cashew chicken or chicken with black bean sauce.
Thank you so much for opening this...
