The flavor selections are amazing. The ice cream itself is fresh and delicious. I had 2 scoops of the maple bacon brickle in a waffle cone. My son had a small cone of chocolate. The employees really need to be taught how to properly fill an ice cream cone. My 2 scoops were lopsided as a 3 legged pack mule. Neither one of our cones had ANY ICE CREAM below the opening. When you're paying that much for ice cream, you'd expect it fill the cone entirely.
SECOND VISIT Gave them another try since my youngest requested the "Cowboy place" to celebrate finally getting over some illnesses. It seemed like they had 20 flavors tonight. He went with the gun powder chocolate single scoop in a cup. After eating 3 bites, he decided he wanted to bring it home to eat later, so I got him a lid. I went with a double dip of Cowpoke cookie and maple bacon brickle with the chocolate waffle cone. I mentioned to the older gentleman behind the counter that the last time we came the ice cream didn't actually fill the cone. He assured me it would be correctly filled this time around. Cone had 100% fill success. Cowpoke cookie was a sweet cream with large portions of Oreo cookie in it. Maple bacon brickle is delicious, I'll get that every time it's on the menu. The only problem we had was the tables. They spin like a Texas twister. I was solo with my youngest, and being that he's preschool age, a spinning table simply MUST be spun. I'd repeatedly told him not to do so. I had to get more napkins and ZING his ice cream went flying against the wall, knocking the lid off. Naturally it landed face down on the floor. Hopefully he learned a valuable lesson about doing as your parent tells you. I learned that Cone Slingers tables are an accident...
Read moreSo I know this place gets a lot of great reviews which is why we drove out of our way to get it this week. We were disappointed and will not be going back.
First, the food coloring. It is extreme in flavors where it is used. My son got the Blue Mint Chip. It wasn’t tinted blue, it was blue slurpee blue. I sampled the banana Reese’s cup and it was a garish canary yellow that was unnatural and unappealing. It is ice cream and we aren’t looking for healthy, but there is a line between unhealthy and just plain ridiculous. The amount of food coloring crosses that line.
Second, the flavors. Crazy flavors are fine and expected, but they need to be right. I sampled banana. The banana wasn’t even passable as tasting like a banana and I love banana ice cream so I have tried a bunch. The chocolate that my wife, my daughter, and I ended up getting was muted. The one highlight were the waffle cones that were fresh and tasty.
Third, the sizing. I had three children with me and looked to get them the mini sized. It was literally the size of a sample cup from Costco or BJ’s for $3. The single scoop was $6. There was not anywhere near half the allowance in the $3 mini. I ended up getting the bigger size for everyone. The sizing is not scaled.
Finally, the quality of the ice cream. The chocolate had ice crystals throughout which tells me it wasn’t being properly prepared or stored. A lackluster chocolate flavor with ice crystals throughout made for a really disappointing cup of ice cream.
Needless to say, we won’t...
Read moreI had no idea what to expect when I made the decision to stop at this little ice cream joint after driving by it for years, but I was pleasantly surprised. Inside, there is an "Old West" Theme, which was very visually entertaining. Available flavors are displayed on a giant blackboard hanging out in front of the square raised counter. I didn't count every listing, but my best recollection is that they had about 20 different flavors when I stopped in. They had traditional flavors, like chocolate, but several unique flavors that I'd never seen anywhere before, like Carrot Cake Cream Cheese, which has a cream cheese ice cream base and bits of carrots and chunks of carrot cake disbursed throughout the ice cream. (It was great.) I tried a double-scoop cone with two flavors, chocolate and carrot cake cream cheese, which were both very good. The ice cream had a smooth, dense, creamy texture different from most commercial ice creams you find in brands like Baskin Robbins or Hershey's. Scoops were large and packed down slightly into the cone. Service was fast and friendly. Checkout was quick and trouble-free. Optional tips can be left in a bucket on the counter or via credit payment. Two scoops on a basic sugar cone ran $8.50 (which includes tax), so it's a little on the expensive side, but makes a nice...
