My wife and I drove from Kingston, TN to Cove Lake State Park to spend the day together for our anniversary. We had been to the restaurant at the park many years ago, but we couldn't really remember anything about it. The atmosphere is still as we remembered with a wall of windows. However you can't really see the lake anymore as the trees have filled in a lot over the last 33 years, but still a very nice view. The service was quick and courteous. We had an order of fried mushrooms as an appetizer. They were huge and freshly battered, not the battered and frozen kind. We got them with the mango habanero dipping sauce and they were delicious. My wife ordered the single pork medallion, onion rings, and coleslaw. The medallion was 4 oz before cooking and was definitely tiny after cooking, but you have the option to order two. With the size of the fried mushrooms appetizer she said the single was enough. The onion rings also appeared to be freshly battered and were good, though they did tend to slip their batter a bit. The coleslaw was also good and was the standard mayonnaise based variety. I had pulled pork with baked beans and fries. The side of baked beans may have been a bit undersized, but the pile of pork was very generous and delicious. The fries were very good also. We both had sweet tea to drink and my wife loved it and got one too go, I thought it could've used a bit more sugar, but I tend to always think that way. After lunch we drove around the park a bit and walked down to the lake. It's a beautiful park with lots of picnic tables, so you could order your food to go and enjoy a picnic at the park. Very nice restaurant at a...
Read moreI went on a Saturday around 3:00 with my family and it wasn't busy at all. It definitely had that small place feel to it. I'm not even gonna put that much effort into telling you everything. It's just not worth it. Lack of professionalism is an understatement. Our appetizers took 30 mins. Which, I don't even know how because there was maybe two other tables. Then, our food took another 45 minutes. I ordered ribs mac and cheese and onion rings. The Mac and cheese is an uncharged. I barely touched it. It was gross and it was cold. It had very little flavor. The onion rings were way over breaded. If these were an appetizer, then fine, but those alone were way too filling. I ate two. My sister could only manage one of hers. The ribs flavor wasn't that great and the meat was somewhat tough. My grandpa's steak was cold. When we asked the server to come over to have the steak taken off the bill, he didn't even address my grandpa or ask how he could make it right. The whole thing was very awkward because of this. Look, I'm not a complainer. I didn't even mention the other food issues because there were many. My check was for my 2 year old, my husband, and myself. It was $79 without tip and the food was terrible. Within a couple hours of leaving, multiple people of the ten I came in with (three very small children) felt sick to their stomachs within a short time after leaving the restaurant. Just don't go. I wanted to try something different but I regretted it immediately. I will say one thing though. The cheese curds were very good. So, if there was one highlight to speak about, there is that. Other than...
Read moreWondered in on a rainy St Pat’s day and was warmly greeted by the hostess. We were seated by the window overlooking a beautiful expanse of rolling green grass and beautiful trees. Our server, Heather, greeted us and quickly brought us our requested drinks. We asked for suggestions on what food was most ordered and she suggested the BBQ sampler plate (chicken thighs, ribs, pulled pork) all smoked in house. Four sides accompanied the meats and we could change them if we didn’t want the beans, cole slaw, potato salad, and sweet potato fries. We kept the sides as offered. Our food arrived after about 15 minutes- and from the first bite to the last, you could tell they cared about what they served. The pulled pork contained no fat- or at least none that I saw- and was so flavorful! The BBQ smoked chicken thighs were moist and smoky and without a doubt the best smoked thighs I have ever eaten. I am not a huge fan of ribs, but tried them and they were meaty and well seasoned. All of the sides were better than good! Our server kept our waters full and checked in on us frequently. When we were checking out- a trio of ladies got up and did an a cappella tension of an old church hymn for their friends birthday, they were awesome- everyone stopped and listened. Very, very enjoyable dining experience- we will...
