I stopped in here twice for a meal while passing through town and had a great experience both times.
The meal that really stood out to me here was the birria tacos. When I first ordered it, I was surprised at the price considering there are only two tacos in the meal. But when it came out, the tacos were totally loaded down with meat and filled me up even without the beans and rice that came with it. The seasoning on the meat was great and was incredibly tender and juicy as well; overall a great meal at a great price. I do wish that it came with a side of the birria broth though. I personally consider that part of the birria experience, but it did not detract from the quality of the meal.
Their salsa bar is one thing that really sets them apart from other restaurants/food trucks. Having the ability to try out all the different salsas and sauces without having to get up and ask someone at the counter, while being able to get more than one sauce per meal is truly a revolutionary service compared to some restaurants that will charge you for additional condiments. With that said, I highly recommend trying the creamy cilantro sauce.
I'm very glad to see a local business put into a town like this instead of some Subway-esq chain restaurant. I also greatly appreciate that the owners are there on the front-line, making sure everyone is having a good meal. It really makes you feel valued...
Read moreThis was a new find for us, as we were headed home from camping. We are so glad we decided to stop by! Dustin and Angelica were so welcoming and helpful! Everything on the menu looked amazing! With Angelica's recommendation, we had The Mana-asada fries and cheese and a carne asada burrito. When we walked in we heard someone raving about the chips and salsa, so we had to try those as well. They did not disappoint. The chips were thin and perfectly crispy, so good. The salsa was a bit too spicy for me but it was so good that I just kept eating it! I ended up adding a little crema, from the salsa bar, to try to calm it down a bit. It wasn't much milder but still delicious! We really wanted to try some more of the items on the menu so we devided to take the uneaten burrito home and try the fish taco and pork tamale. The fish taco was the best we've had since leaving San Diego 18 years ago. The tamale again was a bit spicy for me but it was so good, the heat didn't stop me. I little more crema helped. The masa-meat ratio was perfect. Not too much masa and tons of meat. These guys really know what they are doing! Everything was fresh and so full of flavor!! We wish we didn't live 2 hours away.. Disclaimer: I am a wimp when it comes to spicy things. My husband said it was all perfect!! I just thought other wimps might want to know it is worth the temporary...
Read moreThis place is overrated. We ordered the asada tortas, and they were almost completely flavorless. There was very little meat — mostly just “fillers” like beans, cheese, guacamole, and even more cheese, but hardly any actual carne asada.
They also charged more than what was advertised. The menu board showed a lower price, but the final charge was higher. When I asked about it, they just tried to blame someone else instead of owning the mistake.
Unfortunately, most Americans don’t know what real Mexican food should taste like, especially if they’ve never been deep into Mexico to experience it. This had no authentic flavor — and to top it off, it’s expensive. $4 for a single taco with no depth of flavor?...
