Canal House Restaurant — Restaurant in Cass Lake

Went there -got seated with a bowl of popcorn and 2 menus and that was all the service we got for the next 1/2 hour. None of the waitresses bothered to come & ask what we wanted to drink, did not bring any water, silverware or took our order. They were too busy laughing it up with some guys a few tables away. It was broasted chicken night 9/9/15 and it was our first time there and had heard the food was good, however we'll never know since none of the 4, 5 or how many waitresses were working that night could mosey on over & simply do their job and at least take a drink order! My husband & I are still in shock at how we were treated and have never been treated like that in any restaurant. We had time to read the entire history of the restaurant on the menu and they still hadn't come over. Unbelievable! We love coming here during the summer and sitting outside by the canal but they don't have full wait staff outside which we know and are ok with. We visited on the last day of their season this year and they were having all you can eat fish for a steal! But had to eat inside. Well we asked if they would do it for us this one time and they said they would! They were awesome! And the fish was SO GOOD. We honestly didn't have high hopes because it was so cheap and the last day of the year for them but it far exceeded our expectations. The breading was light and full of flavor and the fish was so tasty, very fresh tasting and light. The fries were delicious too. It was a great way to spend our last day on the lake and will come back again...

Upon entering the restaurant we were warned by the host that it would be a significant wait for our food. They had gotten busier than expected and food could take up to an hour! We decided to stay, mostly because if we drove somewhere else, it would be an hour before we ate anyway. I'm glad we stayed! Our server was fantastic and the food was exceptional. The lettuce on the salad bar was nice and green, we got our appetizer pretty quickly, and the chicken dinners (although they did take an hour) were very flavorful! The side dishes were fresh, seasoned veggies and real mashed potatoes, not canned and instant like so many places are defaulting to nowadays.
