*Edit to add * The owner did reach out about the order and said they made a mistake and they did refund my husband the whole check. She was very kind and it wasn't necessary to do that. We ate and they deserve to be paid for what we did eat. We never expect free anything. They are super nice and look forward to giving them another try. Original post We are always looking for great food in the Gaston/Swansea area. This was not it. At least this morning for breakfast it wasnt. I got a sausage omelette and yellow grits- I got an ok omelette and white grits(grossest grits I ever seen I think...like paste, very oatmealish, yuck) When the waitress came back I asked for the yellow grits again. She brought them - white grits with cheese (tasted a little better than the other ones.) and a side of bacon ( heads up, one piece of bacon is a side. ) My husband ate his but wasn't impressed. Then we go to pay. 45 dollars plus tip... I'm looking over the receipt when we get home. We got charged $3. For one piece of bacon...And they charged us for apple juice $3, which we didn't get...and side of tomatoes $4, which we didn't get...idk what they're doing but dang they got our money today .. First impressions are everything and I was not impressed at all. All of the staff was very friendly. Our waitress was sweet. We'll probably go back for lunch and try it out but idk. Check your...
Read moreSo glad I finally check them out. After reading some reviews and hearing others bad mouth them at other local restaurants, I wanted to see what the fuss was all about. I am glad I did. Ruby was an amazing server. From the minute we opened the door, she greeted us with a beautiful smile and good southern welcome yall . She was very attentive and kept our drinks full the entire time. Another server was also there, I think Savannah ? She also checked on us and kept up with the volume of the lunch crowd and never saw anyone go unnoticed. The chicken wings were so good, crispy, juicy and the swamp sauce is to die for. I met the owner Cheyenne and she never stopped running . She was constantly checking on tables, her staff and helping in the kitchen. We went back for spaghetti special last Thursday night and we had to unbutton our pants a little bit - hehe ! It was so good and fulfilling. It is a nice add to Swansea and glad we checked them out. Will be back, probably more...
Read moreI visited Shumpert's Kitchen on opening day. They had a few challenges thrown their way with the internet and phone lines going down. Then the stove being finicky, but they worked together and made it through their first day. Every staff member I met was friendly and wore a smile on their face. They were attentive and kept my cup full. The food was very good. I got the fish platter with one of the special sides. The fried okra and fried pickles are going to bankrupt me. The way the staff supported one another showed they are not just a kitchen. They are a family.
Edit: How quickly things can change am I right? From a 5 to a 3. I went for the fried pickles. I get home with my order to find 8 pickle slices for $5! See picture... all of the portion sizes got smaller. The pickles put me in a sour mood.
Had to wait forever to give my order. Then again for my food.
I'm going to...
